Acually, there've been two: Artemis (another amazon and Diana's teacher/sparring partner) briefly took over the role once while Diana was unavailable. She barely counts though, since she was still just "Artemis in a Wonder Woman costume."

Though, based on what I've been hearing about this show, it has as much to do with Wonder Woman as that Halle Berry movie did with Catwoman. It sounds more like Ally McBeal With Superpowers.

I wasn't aware of that, but yeah, just someone else wearing the costume. Like Superman has filled in for Batman a couple times.

Yep. I read the pilot synopsis this morning, and lost all interest.

Gina would rock as WW!!

Not only does she have the look but also the acting depth to pull off anything Kelly threw at her.

Diana, Artemis, Hippolyta, and Donna have been WW at various times.

Artemis won the WW position for a short time in the 90s. She has since become the new trainer for young heroines like Wonder Girl and Super Girl.

Hippolyta acted as WW twice but really just once (stupid time travel). After Artemis died (she's alive now), Hippolyta was WW as punishment for her role in her death and Diana's death. She was WW during WWII.

During the year the Big Three disappeared, Donna stepped in as WW until Diana picked up her lasso again. Donna's powers are not the same as Diana's, but no one but the supes knew the difference.

The perfect Amazon role for Gina? My fave Amazon, Phillipus. She's the Chancellor and General of the Amazons. The best fighter and strategist on the island and the Queen's closest friend. She trained Diana.

Uh I kinda doubt this incarnation will even have the rest of the amazons.

Anyway Wonder Woman is not Gina. http://www.people.com/people/article/0,,20466927,00.html

what a shame... I could easily see Gina doing a great job...she's got a charming smile, she can go happy/fun/pleasant, then get snotting/snarly in a split..she can be domineering and admonishing...she's got a nicely balanaced physique..

so..hard core comic fans..maybe not..has to be a barbi doll white girl with long black hair..but I really think Gina would have done tribute to the role.
I'm thinkin they should bring back Carter, as the mom, and cast what's her name from Chuck (his sister)..as her daughter...man do they look alike!

anyway..love you Gina...there's no black or white in my book..you're a charming lovely and talented actress.. I wish the best for you in your career.

See I really don't see it as a race issue though. I mean what if they gave Superman a green and white suit in the new movie instead of the red and blue? Fans would be up in arms. It's his iconic look.

Or what if they hired a guy to play wonder woman? Would that be sexist to say it's a bad choice? I don't think so.

The character is what it is. Unfortunately for Gina the character is a white woman.

That being said it's not impossible for them to make a change like that. It would just mean they have to do an even better job of writing to bring back the fans that get upset over it.

Honestly, I'm kinda glad Gina's not gonna be associated with this. It has "trainwreck" written all over it.

I think you're right about that...

Apparently Gina wasn't the only one that wanted it...

Ok, link not working (it won't let me capitalize her name) but the article is about Yo-Saf saying to be Wonder Woman was her childhood dream...
