I am also not skeptical of these other mainstream beliefs:

3. The Earth is round.
OK, I guess it is sad that I can only think of 4 things I am not skeptical of.

CTTS: Perception is not reality. And you DO make far too much sense on many subjects to be considered "tinfoil hat", in my opinion.
Cav & Byte, Frem's right: You rock. I always appreciate some good humor, to outweigh the nastiness here, and Cav, you are almost always good for same. Thanx.
By the way, I know some really wonderful people who battle schizophrenia. It makes me uncomfortable to see people use the term jokingly or negligently. Just me.
Jezus, PN uses RUSH and World Net Daily to make a point? !?!? ![]()
By the way, most of those were COMEDIANS, PN. I hate to tell you, but satire is one of the best tools of a comedian. Rush, on the other hand, has no excuse. Or do you really think they were serious? If you do, you're definitely too far around the bend for help.![]()

Well, shit, I'd pay good money to see that - maybe we could take up a collection ?

Oh, and speaking of skepticism vs mainstream belief, especially given the recent push to dimiss Wakefield - something which kind of amuses me in a dark sorta way given that so many of his detractors are notorious for using even poorer scientific method in their own often financially biased studies, hey pot, meet kettle...
Well, according to my contacts at the Geekfarm, researchers at a North Carolina university are conducting their own study with proper methodology this time and it does in fact appear to confirm most if not all of Wakefields assertions, with the caveat that of course said study is not yet complete.
Myself, I think they're coming at it from the wrong angle, as usual, since the keystone here isn't how unsafe a medicine is, but rather how we CAN make it as safe as possible, and allow folk to make an informed choice, but that doesn't fill the Big Pharma coffers, now does it ?
That's what offends me the worst, there *are* safer ways to do this, single dose, non-preservative units *are* available, and yet customer safety is compromised for profit, which is IMHO, what the medical profession should focus on and decry, it'd seem a common sense proposal.
Only reason I don't think this is a waste of time is that if we do manage to effectively identify beforehand those at risk of harm from medications, we can seek alternate solutions for them, and maybe in the doing, make ALL medicine safer by that much - no one should have to die or suffer injury as "collateral damage" for the alleged safety of others in a medical sense, that's just unacceptable to me.
Of course, the complexity of my argument is often lost to folk who seem to think skepticism of something there is plenty of reason to be dubious about is unwarranted - but having been *right* several times on this when I damn well wished to hell I wasn't...
I think I'll hold on to that skepticism, thanks.

Quote:Signy alleges that PN has paranoid schizophrenia. I understand it is a very debilitating and isolating mental illness, but it is also a fact that many tinfoil-hat-wearers do have paranoid schizophrenia. (I also know a good number of people with schizophrenia and am sympathetic to the sensitivity issue.)

My comment was not meant to make fun of PN or persons with schizophrenia. It was merely to assert that I am not schizophrenic.

You know how I feel about Wakefield. Incidentally, his results have had independent support from other studies several times before now.
None of it establishes a cause-and-effect relationship, but these studies certainly highlight a need for better and more studies on this topic. What they don't deserve is the witchhunt and categorical denial.

CTTS: Re, your next-to-last post. I wasn't aiming it at YOU specifically, I just noticed several people making cracks about schiz, and it struck me, so I spoke up. That's all.
p.s. I try not to be guilty of "kind words"; I try to speak the truth as I see it, otherwise I might just be complimenting people and/or showing favoritism, so I work hard to avoid both. Actually, there's nothing "kind" about saying in my opinion you make too much sense to be considered tinfoil-hat material, is there? It's nothing more than the opinion I have formed because of what YOU write here. (caveat, caveat, caveat myself into a cave...)![]()

Here on RWED, on THIS forum, saying I make any kind of sense is a great kindness. IMHO.
