Odd but true story: I picked up my first and last copies when I visited the absolutely fascinating Conspiracy Museum in Dallas, Texas. For about three years afterwards, every single piece of mail from friends in the USA was opened and placed in those postal baggies before I received it.

Okay, I am man enough to admit when I am wrong on some things. Truth be told, I watch hardly any television news and hardly read the paper. If anything, I will listen to NPR in the car. I really do not have much use for the press at all because of the sensationalism I mentioned in my post.
You are correct on my Limbaugh and O'Reilly comment. I will eat crow there. And there is bias in the media. It just seems to me like whenever the "liberal media" comment is thrown around by people in discussions at work, etc., it is just an answer for why a story is aired in the first place instead of the slant that it takes. Like the ENTIRE system is biased. I was a bit hot when I posted that, so excuse the slight irrationality.
But, and I'm sure that you will agree with me on this, I stand behind the entertainment over information comment.

Yes it's become more focused towards grabbing an audience...now they all have something like "Flash news", to make a story sound new or important. That started during 9/11.
The fact is we really don't need 24 hour news channels, 10 per cent is actual news...all the rest is commentary or programs where they scream at each other.
As for entertainment and news, one L.A. station has these sexy hot hosts, they have commercials for it where they're dancing around to music.....it really is ridiculous, I think they even do most of the program standing up.

Not particularly. I'm so danged fascinating to the entertainment media in general that with all the paparazzi and such, someone opening my mail doesn't phaze me much anymore.

I like to arrive at my health club around 9 am ... earlier, I run into all the "serious" business-types who always put CNN on the tellies to impress everyone else. Me? I look for MacGyver or Kung Fu or something fun to watch whilst working out.
Anyhow ...
for awhile, this snotty gal was coming in a bit later too, and she always insisted on having CNN on. One day I mention how silly CNN coverage is, and she replies with an ultra-haughty tone in her voice (admonishing me, really), that "It's important to stay informed."
I laughed in her face and pointed out that we had just spent 20 minutes watching a talking head interview a reporter about how the actual interview had gone (with some third party). It was pure nonsense, and not the slightest bit informative (unless you know nothing about the mechanics of journalism) or newsworthy.
Thankfully, I offended her badly enough that if she's coming, she's gone before I get there.

All the 24 hour news stations have the same type of programing...10% actual news..80% talking about the news and arguing and spinning it,10% the reporters then sit around and talk about themselves and how they reported it.
I don't understand the watching of it all day and think you'll be kept informed, 10 minutes at the right time is all it takes.

I agree ... 10 minutes is usually plenty. I really like CBC Radio One news ... generally well put-together and direct to the point. They do both national and regional news quite well.

One of the things I TRULY miss about not living next to Canada (besides the 5mile (~8km) drive to the border) is CBC radio. I could probably get shortwave here but I suspect it's not the same.
I envy your ability to click on real news.
