Just watching deleted scenes in Avatar, rest assured they were gone for a reason- the Extended Version is definitive, IMO.
So. Maybe a 3D version will be issued, if so, Sonisall can buy it. This is where I stop. Happily.
Until the Blu Ray release of Dark Angel makes me go all hi-tek.
But thankfully, that's a long way off...

See me, I wouldn't mind the disc-change - being a traditionalist and all, I'm rather fond of the idea of "Intermission" and the chance to go pee, get a pop refill and more popcorn, neh ?
I wasn't too fond of the 3D version even on the big screen, the image quality suffered a bit for it, and while there's a few "wow!" scenes, a lot of the time it isn't even all that noticeable, and when it *IS*, the scene in question has NO need of such treatment... seriously, a mission briefing ?
Especially when I am sittin in a theatre ALREADY tryin to look over the heads of people taller than me, yeaaah, way to go, Cameron you twit!
I did like the movie, but freely acknowledge that even though I am on "his" side, Cameron came at the story a little ham-fisted, portraying the "other side" so two dimensionally and flat that it took away from the tale, could it have killed him to humanize them a little bit, or even tell us WHY they needed the stuff and what it was used for - especially if that added some moral ambiguity ?

And my biggest bitch is just how trite and idiotic that last fight with the mecha versus the kitty was, lame, predictable, stupid and illogical - Colonel goes DOWN WITH THE BIRD, end story, don't play the same ridiculous gig as every dumbass action flick since get-go, especially when your audience is expecting better of you! - if he really NEEDED a scene to pad in the "I See You" bit, fine, Colonel tries it, and augers in right through the goddamn container, and yon girlfriend quickly finishes his wounded, crushed ass off - film that in POV format from the Colonels point of view so the audience can empathise with his fear of the place and it's creatures, if only for a moment, and THEN cut to the whole Jake suffocating thing, yeesh...
Still a great movie - I like Lawdogs HILARIOUS review of the film, as well.

Anyhows, I been holding off (and I don't do Blu-Ray, cause of Tech/DRM issues) cause it seems a meme today to offer cut down versions first, and try to sell you the same movie six times, and I don't play that game.
Imma likely go with this one in standard issue DVD format if I can find it though.

As for the moral situation, I think it is safe to assume in the sequel to Avatar that America will not survive without unobtainium, therefore Pandora must give it or feel our wrath. Same thing happened with bananas and Central America. (Oil and Middle East? I'm not extending my argument there. It's too controversial.) I'm guessing that in the sequel, America is coming back with H-bombs and Pandora will kick our ass, again. I predict Avatar 2 will earn most of its money overseas.

Fascinating stat, and I don't disagree completely with the assumption that you're making, though I'd like to see the screen %distribution first. If it holds up maybe we should consider making a new genre: American Devastation Pictures, films that portray the various ways of schwacking the US and our "values." If you're right, they would be hugely popular with the rest of the world and at the same time the profits could be used as a way of paying off our national debt. Wouldn't that be ironical.
As far as Avatar SE - definitely wasn't a big fan of the story but the look of the 2D film was amazing, so I'm definitely looking forward to getting this release - I think especially to see the extras.
