My only qualm is about having to swap discs in the middle of the movie. That's so... LaserDisc!
The detail on my DVD looks good enough on my iMac to drop my jaw.

I had a laserdisc player that automatically went to side 2, but you're right, even that delay, or having to change disks sucks. I hate when they do this to a movie. I'm sticking with the first DVD I bought, the one that's 2hrs 35 mins...'cause that's the movie. A new opening? No thanks! New scenes? No thanks! New money out of my wallet? No way!

I dont like Cams politics,but seeing it for the very first time on imax 3d with my 14 year old daughter was freaking awesome .So yes I did purchase it and will probably get extended as well.It does have to be in the top 20 all time for scifi movies simply for the new technology that was ushered in for this one.

But that's a small screen - playing it on a larger one brings out more compression artifacts.
And, it's now a longer movie, which would require even more compression, and a worse picture had they kept it on a single DVD.

I'm serious, this movie look PHENOMENAL now. And I thought it looked great on the single DVD disc. Sonisall was pointing out the small tears in Sully's shirt after the 'dog' attack asking if those were there before.

I could watch them fly around on those pterodactyl thingies all day, the environment and special effects were amazing! Unfortunately, that's all it really has going for it. It was like fern gully or Pocahontas, but with cool creatures and weapons.

It's possible I may be a little biased because the friend who told me to go see it claimed it was better than Star Wars and made some less than favorable comments regarding Marines. I grew up watching dad's old star wars cassette tapes and my grandpa and sister are Marines. I almost waited until it came to the dollar theater to see it out of spite.

But really, that little blurb in your spoiler-box.... seems pretty consistent with how History has played out each and every time such a situation has arisen. Is acknowledging that so upsetting?

I could also see Cameron putting that little detail in at the last minute to avoid a backlash.
However, people that complain that it is "anti-Marine" also seem to conveniently forget that the hero of the movie IS a Marine...
I like the movie but I'm not a huge fan, so I'm not going to double-dip.
