Monster Squad is pretty good, in sort of a spookier Goonies sort of way. Galaxy Quest is a classic, and if it wasn't for the fact it's an unabashed comedy I would rate it fairly high as an SF film.

Galaxy Quest is the best Star Trek movie ever made.
Has anyone else read the comic book "Galaxy Quest: Global Warning?" It's not quite as hilarious as the movie, but it makes an acceptable sequel (and Alexander comes across as an actual actor and not just a Shakespearean caricature).
