Relationship ?
Still being defined , but we're not related , excepting quantum-links and psionic soul-connects. I may be some safe sort of transitional object , in the worst case. But this child is an idealist , and loyalty is very important to her. She cultivates lasting friendships , and she is very spiritually gifted and sincerely loving and affectionate. She's also very empathic. I told this kid that she had a flyer's soul and temperament. She concurred , and told me of her lifelong interest. Unlike most flyers , she seems to have no fear of heights.
She sees me in the role of 'guardian' , but I also serve as a mentor in English , a little Spanish , Expository Writing , and most recently , Aviation.
We also frequently talk on science subjects , being that many of her writing projects are science-related.
As for her momma , I've seen her 3 times in the past week , including today. Have seen her father too. This child has legitimate parents...There are NO illegitimate children , but parents are another matter.
I give ShenZhou's parents all due credit for raising sweet children in an unsweet world.
If you think it so odd that I hang with young folk at my age , you should see ShenZhou's math mentor. I don't know his age , but he looks 70+ , and he is brilliant. I used to be at the 98th percentile national rank myself , but am not there any more. I'm thinking of hiring him myself.
I've never called myself 'dirty old man'. I have called myself 'mean old man' , but ShenZhou laughs , disagrees , and recalls how much she likes Mal. She also laughs at my jokes , for which I am thankful. I laugh at hers , too. She is very quick of mind and wit.
When I gave this girl the Firefly box set and the Serenity Collector's Edition , I expected her to get carried away. She did. She pulled several all-nighters getting up to speed in the Sereniverse. She's like me in these respects : Firefly is in her DNA , and she lives in Serenity. Point of fact , she is the very picture of serenity , placidity , and peace. Which is a great comfort to me.
I've gained more than I've given. But I love giving of myself to these young folk. 'Cause in the end the Love you take , is equal to the Love you make. Heard that somewhere once.
I have contributed to the delinquency of these kids , and hope to do so again , probably as soon as this coming weekend. LotsaMercy has asked for my assistance with her photojournalism project. She began university last fall , as a freshman. She just finished her sophomore year. She's a junior there now. Speedy kid. All these children amaze me. LotsaMercy was helping with my robotics group while she skipped school this past Monday.
Finally , ShenZhou is probably most literally translated as 'Divine Vessel'. Ok , so she's a spaceship. And yes , childhood does have its complications. Compensations , too. It's cheaper than therapy , being good to these kids. But , it's also much more fun , and very rewarding.
