Kirk and Picard were both in the Nexus; both actually in their own Nexus. All they had to do apparently was to "wish" their way out of the Nexus back to that planet before the energy ribbon appeared so they could stop Dr. Soran.......SO....why couldn't Picard or Kirk or both wish their way back into the Nexus after they got rid of Dr. Soran, therefore keeping Kirk forever alive in the Nexus?
Furthermore, if the energy ribbon can be tracked as was shown, then why not use it for good, like sending dying or crippled people into it? Seems like a great final destination to me.
Much better examples of why that movie kinda sucks.

Dark Knight, sci-fi? really!? It's a stretch to be sure.
But Chris, you really didn't like DK? I really thought you, of all people, would totally get it.

Okay, the Gyllenhall chick, I give you that one.
Casting her was a mistake. I also thought Katie Holmes was wrongly cast in BB. My choice would have been either Elizabeth Banks or Anne Hathaway.
Bale's sore throat - well, he needs to disguise his voice, plus scare the bejeesus out of the criminal element; so thats a device that (IMO) delivered the goods. In BB it was a bit overdone, but in DK it was necessary and brought gravitas to the character. Both he and the Joker were going for broke, they were opposite sides of the same coin (TwoFace) and depicted just how thin the line is between sanity and insanity.
I'm not sure what in DK's CGI you considered tacked on, but I thought it was seamless. I regard DK among the top 10 films of the decade, along with The Departed, Eternal Sunshine and American Beauty (just to name a few).

I really don't care what other people consider sci-fi. I prefer the term SF, which stands for "speculative fiction," and that would include science fiction, techno-thrillers with advanced tech, plus the superhero sub-genre. I recall a previous thread in which Chris listed Superman as a sci-fi film, and if that fits then so does The Dark Knight.
