You're not overreacting, there is a threat and I never said there wasn't. I have tremendous respect for commercial airline pilots, especially since aviation safety is one of my hobby studies, and having heard many a CVR tape, these guys are natural heroes who even when obviously doomed, never ever quit trying to save the plane and passengers, right up to the very end...

If we can't trust them, there ain't no point to having planes in the first damned place.

We need to back this guy all the way, or have no one to blame but ourselves.

Commercial airline pilots in america put up with a damned lot of invasion into the personal lives in order to earn the trust of the company and the public, yes ?

Now, the reason for the screening, pat down, xray, or what have you, is to prevent folk from getting on board weapons and equipment with which they could conceivably take over or disable the plane.

Why, exactly, would THE FUCKING PILOT, who is, yanno, the guy flying the goddamn plane, NEED such a thing to take it over or auger it in ?

And honestly, shit, if he did there's a damn crash axe in the cockpit already, don't you know.

I mean, it's all just security theatre anyway, and all of us are well aware of that, a mere dog and pony show as a form of welfare for DHS, TSA and all the other government tit-suckers.

Agreed, Frem. If the pilot is up to no good, his most effective weapon is between his ears, and no scanner is going to pick that up!

And for all the theatre, there's still the fact that on 9/11, the "weapons" used were simple boxcutters.

Ya wanna hear something scary? I send stuff around the country to trade shows, on shrink-wrapped pallets, so my boss has a tendency to fly with a utility knife in her purse - you know the ones - about 5-6" long, thick retractable razor blade. She keeps it in there, and forgets about it, and she's never once been searched or had anyone notice it when she flies. This has happened no less than half a dozen times.

How secure do y'all feel now?
