Friend of mine alerted me to this blog from Michael Roberts. Nothing we haven't heard from PN before, but this is a personal story:

Hey, hey, hey, don't be mean. We don't have to be mean, because, remember, no matter where you go, there you are.

I found out the other day that my 80+ year old grandma was STRIP SEARCHED coming back from a flight a couple years ago because there were RUMORS there were drug mules and they picked her out because she was the most UNlikely candidate.
I swear if I had been there, somebody would've left without eyeballs...
I was talking to hubby about taking a trip the other day and he said he doesn't want to take ANY planes because he's afraid he'll lose control and hurt someone if they tried to strip search him. Ain't about being naked and havin' rays... It's about the humiliation. Goverment sanctioned humiliation.

HK,
Thanks for reminding me why I don't fly. Also, I'm not too fond of cities. Out here, of course, they're trying to poison the land and the water, and I'm not talking chemtrails, they want us all under surveillance.
The sheeple, of course, will lie down and take it.

I think it's kinda refreshing just how MUCH support has been pouring in for this guy - especially given the verbal, emotional, if not possibly legal, or even physical (knowing what kinda jackbooted scum the TSA are) abuse he's gonna suffer for taking a stand.
Many of the more reasonable Libertarians have stood up, AND a damn lot of Liberal folk too, and now that there's enough press involvement to appease the ACLU's need for media-whoring and grandstanding, they might actually try to do something about this.

I mean, we already knew about the groping thing, hell, it almost started a REALLY violent incident in a southern state when the bastards did it to a Lt's Wife awaiting the return of her husband from Iraq - that whole unit was about six seconds from delivering a beatdown, and of COURSE the perverted bastards covet their scanners, cause a statistically high percentage of folk in the surveillence biz are peepers anyhow, not to mention there's already been one internal incident of some TSA goon beating the crap out of another over being mocked by his co-workers for the size of his "equipment" while being scanned.
But most folk, as conditioned to right from the cradle by our so-called education(indoctrination) system just went on, sat down, shut up, and obeyed, to a degree that has always enraged me, especially when it encourages further abuses.
So yeah, I am very gratified that this guy, in a position of some moral authority* to do so, stood up, spoke out, and took a stand - he took a chance, kicked a pebble, and it set off an avalanche - let that be a LESSON to you folks, in how important even such petty defiances can be.
*Moral Authority: He's a fuckin PILOT for heavens sake, he's the one FLYING the plane, if we can't trust THIS guy, we're all fucked, aren't we ?
Seriously, what SENSE does it make to manhandle the pilots, when they've already had a background check bordering on the TSA crawling up their ass with a microscope, eh ?
I have tremendous respect for commercial airline pilots, especially since aviation safety is one of my hobby studies, and having heard many a CVR tape, these guys are natural heros who even when obviously doomed, never ever quit trying to save the plane and passengers, right up to the very end...
If we can't trust them, there ain't no point to having planes in the first damned place.
We need to back this guy all the way, or have no one to blame but ourselves.

My family wants to go to England to see my brother this Christmas. I'm not looking forward to it.
Maybe I'll use some tape and make aluminum underwear and a bra. I don't really want to go in a little room and do a pat down either. I'm paranoid, remember? I also have a serious case of Do Not Touch.
They got a picture of me already, it was a year ago, it was when they first installed them, hadn't heard anything about it, took me by surprise. Had to go on a business trip, so I couldn't back out, not without losing my job. They had a public service information about a trial run for the machine, and I didn't want to do it. But I couldn't figure out any way around it. I didn't know you could opt out then, because the information sign didn't include any information about an alternative option.
The old guy afterward was trying to act all nice because they could tell I was upset, but it just came across creepy.
It'll be worse when I have to go through the New York airport.

May I contribute
I'm not a rightist or a leftist, my opinion of all sides is pretty much nil. But I would have to say this. Pants bomber wouldn't have even got onto the plane, he would have been stopped by milimetric scanners, as would the 9/11 hijjackers, the list goes on.
Y'all are complaining about civil liberties violations and that this kind of thing means you're living in a police state
I have one thing to say to that.
"Tell the mothers and fathers of the dead kids about civil liberties."
I don't really care if I have to get strip searched, because at the end of the day, the alternative of planes falling out of the sky or a repeat performance of 9/11 is a lot worse.

See, it's always about over or under reaction here.
Quite frankly, I've had it with this bullshit.
Put a fucking MRI machine at every airport to pass through.
We go from stupid sophomoric metal detectors (that DON'T work close to the ground) to gorram precision x-ray shit (that CAN'T be good for anyone's body).
Just fork over the bucks to get it done right, PLEASE!!!!
Personally, I don't CARE if they see my pee pee, or share the pix with peeps who care, I just want to be SAFE!!!! From nuts w/weapons AND nuts w/radiation.

Freedom isn't free. It also isn't free of risk.
Mandatory breathalyzer-interlock systems would stop drunk driving. Mandatory Bluetooth jammers would stop texting and phone calls while driving. These would save more lives every year than were lost on 9/11 or in every terror attack on America in it's history. Also, raising the driving age to 21 and demanding minimum 5 years training would all but eliminate traffic deaths.

That would work, since from what I've seen of American driving tests, they're a joke.
