I can't think of anything I really like that is widely despised. I can think of quite a few things that seem to be widely liked but I haven't been able to sit through and/or have no interest in watching. This could be because I'm highly prone to hype backlash, or it could just be the things that amuse or delight my friends don't always amuse or delight me.

Also, I forgot to mention in my other post about this movie. My sister was totally obsessed with it for a while, and made me watch it. Honestly it was one of the most disconnected, poorly written and plotholerrific things I have ever seen. Also the music is just aimless cacophony. So my question is what are some of the movies that you like that your friends and/or relatives despise?
-Vampires Kiss(1989) It is a strange film, and Nic Cage plays a lunatic very well. I really like it. All my friends hate it.
-Doctor Detroit(1983) Showed some friends clips of it, they laughed me out of the room.
-Slacker(1991) Richard Linklater's crowning achievement in my opinion. Shot in Austin, Texas 16mm. Some family members liked Dazed and Confused, so I let them borrow Slacker. They didn't speak to me for a while(because I wasted 2 hours of their life).

Love "Slacker"! That was my real introduction to Austin when I moved here. We made a point of doing a "Slacker Tour" that we invented, tracking down every place that we could identify from the movie - G&N Steakhouse, Mount Bonnell, etc. - and going there.
One of my wife's old room-mates has a small role in the movie, as a doorman at the nightclub. His name is (no kidding) Electric Lord. It was Eric Lord, but he changed it to Electric, adding the "lect" to the middle. :)
The modern definition of "socialist" is anyone who's winning an argument against a tea-bagger.

I *liked* 2010, but it had its issues. Still, it does a fantastic job of "explaining" the first movie to those as needs it told... And of course Jupiter is just gorgeous.

Alright! Another fan. To be honest It is probably one of my favorite films of all time. Because of it's non-linear approach to film, and the amazing writing on the part of Richard Linklater. Some of his thoughts on life are very intriguing, at his worst his characters tend to seem a little schizo. He has amazing potential, and though Waking Life was good, I just didn't connect with the film.
Here's to the next great Linklater film!

Star Trek Nemesis. I maintain that the holographic confrontation between Shinzon and Picard summarizes the entire point of Star Trek. (Are we simply the result of the events that shape us, or do we have the capability to choose to be better than the world makes us?) It also has one of a handful of space battles in modern Trek that doesn't require the ships to be so close they can scrape hulls (space is huge, guys. You don't have to crowd together).
Devlin & Emmerich's Godzilla was no worse than any of the Toho canon. Godzilla has never been Shakespearean drama, and anyone who honestly expected the American version to be has no business reviewing movies. It also spawned one of my favourite animated series.

That argument, as a defense of anything, always strikes me as weak.
There are about a billion degrees between Shakespeare and utter crap. But every time that defense is employed, it tends to be for stuff that hews much closer to the utter crap end of the scale.

Yup - I loved that the "star" of the movie was the camera itself. You're just along for the ride, seeing whatever the camera sees along its ride through an ordinary day in an extraordinary city.
And I loved Dazed & Confused, too. Again, lots of familiar stomping grounds in that one.
