I would bet that considering how many posters Niki's posts attract (including yourself, evidently) that a fair few people find what she has to say interesting.

I don't know about you but most of us liberals haven't been above it, and I think that's okay.
so long as things simmer down and people go back to posting substantive contributions, the brutal character assasinations/cruely accurate portraits can be forgiven in the name of very personal subject matter...
not that I think everybody tries to be substantive...but then those who don't aren't taken seriously anyway.

Yeah, ain't so much a problem with discussion, always willin to discuss - it's that there's a couple here with no intent to discuss, simply to trumpet one specific way of lookin at things and then ram it down everyone elses throat, and/or run them off if they can't accomplish that.
Only, that doesn't take real well to Browncoats, who never met a lost cause they wouldn't fight, yanno ?
I've actually learned quite a bit from talkin to folk here, and surprisingly picked up even more tolerance and understanding of non-anarchists than I already had cause it came clear just how badly needed some of the structures, political or social, that other anarchists would go smashing willy-nilly are - I already had some idea, but the devil of the details is something I picked a lot of up here.
I've also tried to hand out some understanding of the other side of that viewpoint, with more success than I ever really hoped for, so it's all good in the end - I don't think it's so much about mind-changing, as bringing understanding of each others worldviews into the personal, so that we understand each other well enough to get along.
And yanno, I think that's a laudable thing even if there is a lot of flash and smoke involved cause it's constructive, rather than destructive, in the nature of it...
Conversely, that's also why I do happen to be so hostile to folk who's intentions are to wreck any substantive discussion which isn't carrying forth their own narrow worldview, that's an offensive act in my eyes and will never be anything but.
There IS NO "One Right Way", "One True Path" - however any individual becomes enlightened, or not, is up to them, a process as individual as people themselves, and try cut themselves short trying to fit the mold just demeans their own humanity, the one bit of true grace we ever had, what MAKES us....

So now, the only widespread communication we have left to us, person-to-person and first-person (twitter or skype or Blackberry or smart phone or through ISPs to PCs/ laptops) will either be squeezed down by Google/Verizon (call the FCC!) as they wring net neutrality down to nothing, or be so laden with backdoors that government intrusion is guaranteed.
The whole thing that set this off is Blackberry, which claims to be safe from government or corporate spying because of its encryption process. That's why DOD and corporate bigshots use it all the time. (Check it out... all the DOD research peeps I ever worked with used it.) Well, the UAE and India have decided that Blackberry is a security threat, and have banned it. So now, our government is taking its security measures from the Middle East???

Too much going on that's stupid and scary. Too much propaganda, but IMHO Obama showed himself to be "the enemy" a while ago, and this is another nail in the coffin. The only difference between him and Bush is that he talks better.
