There's some people who kaneman probably has chased off, and I'm sure kaneman will take great pride in chasing off such weak-hearted overly sensitive people. Unfortunately, blaming kaneman doesn't really encompass the problem. I admit perhaps I'm one of the weak-hearted overly sensitive people Niki was referring to, above, but it's incorrect to boil the problem down to this poster or that poster. It is much more complicated than that.
And I definitely don't agree with the ban/silence opinions expressed in this thread... In fact, this may even be PART of the problem.

I would make a dramatic departure myself if I wasn't already a sockpuppets sockpuppet. It's just to much of a hassle to create a new identity every few months. Some how I doubt we've seen the last of Niki, but we can hope.
I would miss the Beast though, he's the first inteligent new sockpuppet to wander into RWED in a long time now.

The book is a term paper (at best) expanded into a small book, but it got me to thinking lo these many years ago that people really DO engage in distorted thinking, and that they cling to ideas, beliefs, and assumptions long.... looooong... after they have outlived any utility they might have had.

I wasn't speaking of any single individual--we have enough of them! IF it were only one person, it would be much less unpleasant--even if only a couple.
And I DEFINITELY don't think of you as overly-sensitive, Byte; rather I think of those of us who bother to hang around despite the situation as hard-headed and stubborn! I think any normal person wouldn't put up with it for long, which is probably the case and why there are so few of us who actually post.
I, too, think the remark about just posting on Firefly was out of place; nobody has to come to RWED; Firefly is long goneand there's only so much you can talk about regarding it (only speaking for myself), and I very much enjoy talking to a lot of the people here, discussing politics and so many of the other things we discuss and debate. I don't know why it should matter to anyone that we're down here, since they don't have to even recognize our existence. To each his own; I don't think any of us need to be preaching to anyone else about what we post (and yes, here comes the snide remarks about me mentioning the ugliness from time to time...go ahead, I don't give a shit).
You're right, Mike, we've lost good people even since I've been here, and that's not been long; I'm sad I never got to meet those who left, I've missed a lot. Hopefully new hard-headed people will come in future and keep the place alive, it just saddens me to see people disappear, like DT and those who left or have decided to be here less recently. And Wulf...sorta.

FFF's RWED is still THE place to be for political discourse in my opinion. I'm not posting a lot these days, but I do check in often to get an idea of what people are thinking about the issues of the day, and this is the best place to find out. We hear from all sides here, something you cannot get at ideologically-driven sites. RWED is certainly not for the squeamish, but it does not chase people out either. People leave on their own for a variety of reasons.
