people suck.
And Muslims, being people, suck.
Kinda like Christians or Jews.

But not Buddhists- they are cool.

Oh, thank you. I appreciate a nice pick-me-up.

Not all people suk...well not those of us that have evolved beyond primal levels...I know we are in the minority comparitively speaking but we are still surviving despite centuries of persecution.

I often ponder about why we are outnumbered by the inately ignorant?(and I'm not talking about people who have not been blessed with a decent education I'm talking about people generally) I go for walks and observe the different levels of humanity and ponder if there's a way to activate a switch to make the stoopid ones less so. I have to believe they have the capacity to be enlightened or else I'm just horrified.
Then again I live in small town where a quarter of folks are one step away from being Reavers!

Small towns are interesting, people are very real. They're not all diluted and near standardized, you see the best and worst of humanity at every corner, sometimes within the same person.

Not a whole lot of places where your vehicle could break down and a stranger will share a house and a meal with ya while you see to that car (or stop beside your car to see if you are alright for that matter) but then you also have nutjobs whole kill folk for bein' too 'different'. 'Course there's folks killin' folks outside of small town America as well, but when you know most everybody it's much more personal.

The main thing I dislike about small town life is the self-appointed big fishes in a small pond.
Makes me wanna set off an underwater charge, y'know?

Small town NSW Australia where I live: Mostly decent community minded folks small minded too in a lot of respects but genuinely good people. but then we have the scum dwellers we refer to as ferals. I try to smile and be sociable to them but it has zero effect. They don't seem to respect anyone including each other, have no sign of human empathy, do things like pimp their kids out to maintain their drug habits, shriek at each other publicly, make uninvited comments to the rest of us etc etc they are just plain uncomfortable to be around. I have to catch the bus with many of these "people" and often wonder how they get that way...My Town is also one of the unfortunate places where the govt dumped masses of Reaver types after they "cleaned up" Sydney for the olympic games a few years back. So on top of the fact that they were unsavoury to begin with these people have been ripped from their homes...which justifiably makes them even nastier. Luckily along with the revolting evictees came some decent folks who have worked hard to become part of our community and have taken advantage of the many programs offered by our local community services (Parenting programs, work skills etc) I probably come off sounding a little mean but I get harassed regularly by ferals: I wear glasses, am highly articulate and I twitch and they seem to be bothered by it.
Our Town has a reputation for revoltingness. when i tell people i live in Raymond Terrace there's an inevitable sharpm intake of breath and comments like "Bet you can't wait to leave" or "why would you want to live there?" I was in a town further north and right in the country for 7 weeks while I did clinical placement. it was completely different everyone was so polite and friendly regardless of their social standing.

Yeah, some places have that attraction. I grew up in a town where I was mugged three times.
Manhattan was totally safe. Go figure.

I know what that is like. I learned to switch from articulate to speaking with an accent and back again and started wearing contacts, but that didn't have anything to do with ferals, more girls.

I also smile a lot and am a teacher (or will be when I find my first full time teaching job) so I 'spose I seem harmless enough not to be bothered. That and the fact that I work with 'their' kids after school (I hope that doesn't sound prejudiced). Though, my experiences is primarily with children and mothers or female caretakers. I'd comment further on how we never hear from male parents but apparently that is racists...

Anyway, in my admittedly limited experience, I think it helps to speak 'on their level,' for lack of a better term, so as not to intimidate them. (And that don't mean slang, or they might think your mocking them. Better for them to think you naive and harmless). 'Course I have the advantage of being a tall semi muscular man. They don't want to be told they are wrong, but a lot of them do want to do right by their kids and get better. I wish I could say the same of males with confidence but again I never see them.

Oh, and this is small town southeast USA, though I 'spect the concept of your 'ferals' is universal.
