Well, funny thing is...
Osama prolly *didn't* do it - not only did he flatly deny it, even though our intel books cooked some really phony-looking tapes of a guy who don't even look like him sayin otherwise (proven to be fakes, mind), it also doesn't fit his MO either.
You gotta remember also that like most terrorists worth the name, we financed and supplied his rise to power as well, even had him over to visit a couple times under the alias "Tim Osman", and the document came from what I consider a reliable source, which has provided other very useful data like those comm intercepts concerning the OK Federal Building.
Primary suspect would in fact be Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, good ole KSM, the guy behind the original WTC 1993 attack, who woulda totally fucked it up anyhow had not the FBI seen fit to hand him an explosives expert (Emad Salem) AND a working bomb, and then stand back and let him set it off after ordering Emad *not* to sabotage it, something he wisely caught on tape when he realized he was being set up by his FBI handlers.
Now, we DID catch his ass, the Pakistani ISI in concert with the American DSS, with a properly served, legally executed warrant and they held a proper, by-the-book interrogation, without all the hands-on shit, and we netted a boatload of useful, actionable intel... that was suddenly, inexplicably, ignored.
That included the Bojinka plan, which was a general outline for basic hijack-and-crash operations, so this was well known as a potential tactic.
Then of course, we shipped him to one of our black sites and tortured the bastard till he went bonkers and invalidated all of the evidence we collected since he started "confessing" to stuff he didn't do, couldn't have done, and that other folks did - you know how that goes.
The other suspect would be Ramzi Yousef, who had also at times been cashing a paycheck from our alphabet boys, and unlike most so-called terrorists that fucker was pretty good at this shit, which made him dangerous.
We caught HIS ass too, with a properly served, legally executed warrant, the Pakistani ISI in concert with the American BDS rounded him up neat as you please when someone rolled him for the reward money we offered (MUCH cheaper than a war, innit ?) and he talked a buncha smack then clammed up - apparently he wasn't worth torturing, or maybe he might start tellin folk where to find certain check recipts, more likely, so we sent him through the rocket-docket, held a quiet show trial, convicted his ass and shipped him to SuperMAX Florence.
Most of the other supposed Hijackers were using false credentials, and we've found at least seven of the folk quite alive, eslewhere, and quite pissed at such an accusation - so there's really no way to know exactly WHO was on the planes, especially since some of the records have been altered and the original seat and ticket numbers don't even match any more.
Suspect three would be Mohammed Atta, who was no one wants to talk about since he was hanging with Jack Abramoff and friends, which leads back to some interesting monetary connections if you follow it long enough.
Most of the rest of the info is fragmented, and very complicated since one would have to thread though all the ass covering bullshit, and obvious false leads thrown in to cover certain peoples asses or support politically-motivated conclusions, but in the end the big finger points at some asshat none of you have likely ever heard of, Wali Khan Amin Shah - they bagged him up at the safehouse, lost him, caught him again, and handed him to US Authorities who stuffed his ass in the bowels of Marion USP and forgot about him.
(as in, we never brought him to trial, just cuffed him and stuffed him, all nice and quiet like)
And if you follow the money, it leads through a handful of Saudi and Kuwaiti upperclass who all have one thing in common - an investment group called Carlyle.
Make of that what you will.
As for Osama ?
Guilty of terrorism - hell fucking yes.
Guilty of 9-11-01 - likely not, if at all, only as an accomplice from

Who the hell ever came up with nation-building with troops and civilian advisors for Afghanistan? That was a Viet Nam trap in the waiting, and nine years later we're still there.
You're assuming an awful lot here about a part of the world that is infinitely complex. Firstly, you (like Bush and his ilk draw a direct line between the Taliban that ruled Afghanistan, and Bin Laden and Al Queda.
Terrorist cells generally don't operate in a free and transparent way, that is why they are called cells. They may have connections, they may pass funds between one another, but rarely do they know details about membership and movement.
It appears that Al Queda is a very loose organisation, that gives grants for want of a better word, to organisations wanting to carry out anti US activities.
I've never really had much time for the conspiracy theorists around 9/11, although I agree with those posters who have pointed out the dirty links between the US and Saudi money that probably ended up in the hands of someone who planned it. I think Atta was the mastermind behind it, a religious fanatic who hoped to destabilise if not bring down the US with his (and thousands of others) deaths.
In the end, 9/11 didn't do any of those things, but it was a symbolic guesture of defiance against the world's greatest military power - the puny David bringing down the Goliath with his sling shot...for a small time anyway. I don't think it was as much about religion, as about power and powerlessness, and about being seen to be able to 'fight back' by those who have felt oppressed by the military industrial complex that basically rules the world. That was reason that people danced in the streets.
The ironic thing about it all was that is exposed the great powerless of the US to respond to terrorism, other than choosing to pay back some debts (ie Iraq) and waging a very poor PR campaign - "War on Terror" perleeease!!

I have a question: and it's one that may have already been answered, so please bear with me.
WHY, after nine years, is there NOTHING being constructed at Ground Zero.
I live near Manchester, England. On June 15th, 1996, The IRA planted the largest bomb that the UK Mainland has seen, slap bang in the middle of Manchester City Centre. The resulting explosion ripped the city centre apart, destroying many historical buildings.
Now, granted, this is not on the same scale as 9/11 and there were warnings and evacuations and no death toll, so I appreciate the difference, BUT........
Only 3 years later, the entire area was rebuilt from scratch. The DAY AFTER, people of Manchester were going to work as if nothing happened. In fact, when the 7/7 bombings were happening in London, people tended to shrug it off and say "What was that loud noise".
Now, I absolutely feel for your countrymen who were involved in and affected by the atrosities in NY on that day, BUT, I think it's about time that you dropped the "Victim Culture" and got on with it.
I was in New York last November and although I loved the city, I couldn't get my head around the fact that Ground Zero is a bloody tourist attraction. I had no wish to see a hole in the ground, or take morbid pictures of it. I appreciate that folk who were affected need a place to go and reflect, but this is just milking it. BUILD something on there.Make use of the space and stick two fingers up to the sods who destroyed it.Every day past with a ruinous crater in the ground is just another reminder of who has actually won the fight.
Perhaps what you people need is less a show of pointless military force and more of a "Look after your own back yard" attitude.
The same happened with Katrina. Isn't Louisiana still a bloody wasteland after that??? How can a country with such vast resources not look after it's own people, or rebuild it's own landmarks?
Again, this is not an intentional snipe at the USA and I don't wish to belittle the events of a decade ago, but, BUILD SOMETHING on the site.

Quote:Um... OK, people keep saying this, but it's just not true. I was downtown a few months ago. Have you seen the photos from Saturday's memorial? Have you seen any recent photos at all? They are indeed building, and have been since at least 2006. Setting the foundations of such a complex structure is not a quick and easy job.

The "Freedom Tower" is several stories high now. Check the wiki page for photos:

I hate the name (makes me think of "Freedom Fries" - gah! Cheesy Americana!) but I love how they planned the bottom of the building. The first several (maybe a dozen?) stories are a windowed lobby, and you can see the massive central beams that hold the thing up. Really massive. It's like they're advertising: we are not building this fucker to get knocked down. It's good PR, since you know everyone who sees this will be thinking: can it happen again?
So anyway, please do some research before getting all upset over this. Expensive high rises do not build themselves in a moment's time.
ETA a picture from 9/8/10, from the wiki page:

So just refer to it as "The French Tower".

Hey, I'm glad they're finally building something there, too. The Burj Dubai, over twice as tall as the Twin Towers, took just over 5 years to complete. So let's get busy!
