My Car's Window Derailed

I don't have that many miles despite owning it for it's entire life. I'm somewhere in the 160,000 range -- I'm not sure. My odometer broke last year and I've not been able to find someone willing to fix the gear that needs to be changed out. Plus, I want my odometer moved forward to more closely reflect the actual miles on the car. I've been having to track my mileage (as best I can) manually.
Everyone thinks I'm nuts for keeping it. I have a stick shift and during good weather during the summer can get up to 41mpg! If I have to use my A/C for an extended period of time, it drops to about 35mpg.

My AC died 4 years ago & I never bothered to get it fixed.
My MANUAL windows never blew a motor, my non-powered steering & brakes never failed on me, the only thing I dislike is that you can leave the lights on without the key in the ignition.
That's what my jumper cables are for.

Jake, I just thought about it- 19 YEARS???? Is yours a DOHC? Mine is a SOHC- I don't know if it can last as long...

We're debating whether or not to take my other half's pointA-B 1998? Mercury Sable to the junkyard now.
It has 367,000 miles!
An antenna permanently bent backwards and tied to the rear-view from hitting 3 deer.
It's totally missing a couple running light covers.
A little gas panel damage from a small accident in Wally world's parking lot so I drilled a hole in the underpanel and bolted it togeter to keep it from flapping in the wind
A skylight that somebody rigged that hasn't worked since soon after we bought it in 2003. At least it's closed...
The steering wheel is a tiny bit... bent. Don't ask how THAT happened. It also pops when you go around curves.
The driver's side window will only close if you push on it from the outside.
The A/C blew years ago...
The boots are really bad and the starter has a dead spot so you have to hit it with a prybar to get it to start.
Still, it has a good stereo in it..So we're still debating...
Will let you know what we get come tax-return time.

Yep, 19 this coming January. You know, I don't remember which it is!! I do know the day the car was "born" (Jan 18, 1992) I got to pick it up a few days later. I remember several years into ownership when I was at the dealer, they had a car around the same age as mine that had over 400K miles on it and it was still the original engine. This was quite a few years ago now. The guy didn't want to turn his car in, but figured he was pushing his luck and bought another Saturn. They had it in the showroom for quite some time.
That car is just me. Just the thought of not having it around makes me sad. It was stolen about 7 years ago and I was lucky I got it back. those were the worst 13 days of my life -- and I was basically homeless for two years!
There has only been one car that has ever turned my head from my beloved Saturn -- the Saab 93 2.0 Turbo. I had to rent a car for a weekend and they ran out and I got to drive it for the lower price. Nice, nice car.

No, I didn't have to live in my car. I thought I was going to have to, but instead wasted precious dollars living in the cheapest dive motel around. It gets very cold here in winter and very hot in summer, so I needed somewhere with actual heat and a/c.
It was a nightmare living amongst the dregs of humanity (drunks, drug addicts, hookers -- it was a menagerie, really) and dealing with a psychotic (literally) part-owner who threatened people's lives on a regular basis. If it hadn't been for the manager at the time, I would have lost my mind.
It was hard finding a place where I could live as it was, but when he threatened to turn me into "ground beef", I hightailed it out of there and ended up in a really crappy apartment (no so much in looks, but it's badly built and very noisy) where I've been for the past year and a half.
I'm still trying to find a decent place to live, but I can't afford much so that make things a bit of a challenge.
