Briglad, I'll not deny the Crown Vic is serious stuff, and still easy enough to find parts and repairs for, and oh how I do love good ole fashion Detroit rolling steel...

But if you're buying a car to soak UP a wreck, hell, buy a Volvo, heh!

The idea is not to get clobbered in the first place, although lookin around here in MI where every third car is some monstrous SUV and I can't even see the goddamn street signs through the beasts, I can see why some folk wouldn't want a smaller car, but despite all claims to the contrary the laws of physics still apply and those monsters are NOT maneuverable in snow and ice, a fact highlighted by the parade of the damn things lying sideways and upside down on I-94 every winter...

In fact, that's a situation where they WOULD be better off with a crown vic, cause the handling is better, lower ground pressure and shorter stop distance, not to mention that the heater in them damn things is near indestructible, unlike the pieces of shit in my car or my ex's truck, both of which break down every 2-3 months.

As far as buying american though, honestly, knowing what I just toldja, if you had a choice between the Honda Accord and Chevy Aveo - which one puts more money in american workers pockets, neh ?

I like the big-daddy boats, but I got no use for one no more, I never GO any bloodywhere save to the grocery store and around town, in fact, my personal car is used so rarely I might consider buying a classic, the insurance isn't so bad when I drive it so little, and it wouldn't add a lot of wear and tear, but would run it every so often so it doesn't get sitting-rot either, so I'm like the perfect owner for one...
Fact of the matter, if that Hudson Hornet goes up on the corner again, imma get a price on it, cause if I bought the Mustang Mach I my insurance company would hire a hit-man!

Small cars can be fun too, one of my buddies back in West Va had an AMC Gremlin X, and that thing was heaps of fun, basically a box and some seats strapped to a V-8, was all it was.

Let's not kid ourselves about most "modern" umm "american-made" cars though, especially when it comes to GM, one might remember I have the only car I've ever heard of to be lemon-lawed twice, by different owners, for different problems, and I just replaced ANOTHER set of warped brake rotors.

I've got the 2005 with a drop top, and it is deeelightful. The 2011 looks even better but I'm sticking with mine for a while more. Even though it's a gas-guzzler.
Barring that, I've always been fond of Cadillacs. Smoothest ride for your tush money can buy.

Love the first-generation XB; *HATE* the second-gen model. Everything that was right about the first, they changed on the redesign. Very disappointing. :(

I like the Cube, too; it's so goofy it's cute, and so cute it's goofy. Based on the Versa platform, too, which bodes well...

I actually quite like the Kia Seoul, but I'm leery, because (1) it's a Kia (ask Frem), and (2) they seem to be having issues with steering knuckles and hubs falling off, leading to front wheels leaving the cars at inopportune moments (like, when driving!).

IF I need to get a new one sometime in the near future, my Son says a Beetle or Smart Car, but I'm considering this:

Chevy Aveo

Am I nuts, or is this a decent ride for the money?

And what are YOU considering?

Funny You should mention Saturn. I have been eyeballing the Saturn Ion for months now, and I'm about ready to purchase a good used one for about $11,000.

The first Ions did not impress me, but the one pictured is sweet. Go for it- my Saturn has only had one major problem at 194,000 miles- the transmission had to be replaced (manual, and I drive like Speed Racer). $1300, and worth it IMO.
