Hahaha, Byte - back then just about the ONLY time someone would wear shaded glasses was due to a really bad cause of syphillis causing them to be very light sensitive, and as RE hinted, the usual treatment for it was mercury based, and both toxic and nasty...

Anyhow, it fits with the persona/character I do for em, Corporal Junkett, unit clerk and general dogsbody, and none too very bright - I can actually talk a lot of historically-accurate "period" smack, too, which is always appreciated.

As for animals, I get along with em better than people, the hard part for me with the CivWar folk was figuring out a saddle, since up till then I'd never used one, either the horse lets me ride or they don't, and they usually do - hell, I got one of my great aunts "unbroken" horsies to let me ride him for a few minutes once, when I was a kid.

You also would prolly have been amused at me talking that monster belgian (I think he was a belgian, he was FEKKIN HUGE) into standing next to the fence so I could climb it and then leap onto him from the top rail, which he took with this amused "silly humans" kinda expression - prolly looked like a spider monkey riding a pony, cause I was sooo small, and he was sooo huge, and he didn't even have a bridle or nothing on, so I was having to lay flat against the back of his neck and kinda guide him by leaning this way or that, my great auntie near laughed herself sick while my mother tried oh so hard not to show how horrified she was (she had lots and LOTS of practice, by then) that I was gonna get dumped off and squished.

Just to let you know, the folks at Williamsburg are more than just actors. They really research the period and have quite a back-story for their character. I had a long discussion with one gentleman about his experiences in Lord Dunmore's war of 1774, and the training it gave the Colonials for the possibly pending conglict with Great Britain.

Well the British army did allow in more aged recruits, especially late in the war. However, most of the guys there are under 25, one's like 30 and yeah a few are approaching 40, but hey it's a hobby.

As for the dirt, this was as us during the phoney war setup we did, so everyone would have been pretty spick and span.


here's the confederates I fell in with for my stint in CW. That was a very different experience. Though, these were all northern guys like me.

I have a tendency to assume all animals are friendly. No one's more shocked than I to discover that this isn't always the case. :)

Geezer, I pretty much assumed as much (that they take it seriously). The mention of people having entire histories for their characters showed that.

Do they use horses? It would be double neat if they used horses...maybe even triple neat. Do they have cannons, like on wheels and all? Gawd, I'd love to see it...
