holy crap! that snapshot of Obama, the overlayed image must be from Shaun of the Dead. Not because I have the movie memorized, but the bloke with the bicycle gloves and silly hat, is Tyres a character from the tele show Simon Pegg, Nick Frost (and several other veterans of their films, most notably his girl cousin he runs into in the alley, and saves Shaun near the end (she was a main player))did before their film career. The show was hysterical but had trouble finding an audience. It was titled "Spaced" You see many of the same concepts that would come to fruition in the films Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz in the series.

Tyres was this burnt out raver who only showed up a few times in the show. He would demand 20 quid from Simon Pegg's character for a loan Simon had asked for, only to forget the whole thing and give Simon £20 when asked for another loan. He'd also hear everyday sounds and begin to hear techno beats in them (whistle blowing, the door opening and closing) and begin to rave dance to them.

The whole idea of the show is Tim (Pegg) and Daisy (Jessica Hynes) are both found without a stable living arrangement (Tim through a breakup, and Daisy through total exhaustion of her immature friends), both have never met but are searching for a flat. After meeting by chance in a coffee shop, they discover the perfect flat, cheap, good sized and near their places of employment. Unfortunately, the land-lord (a spinster/widow with grand thoughts of her own appearance) demands that the flat can only be rented by a couple. So Tim and Daisy decide to pretend to be a couple to get the sweet flat. Keeping up the appearance of a relationship between 2 people who've only just met is a large tenant of the series, as well as adventures including Tim's buddy Mike (Nick Frost) who's been thrown out of the territorial army (national guard equivalent) for going nuts and stealing a tank, the crazy/hermit artist downstairs and small cast of other characters. Done on a shoestring budget, Pegg's humor really shines and it became a cult classic after being cancelled after only 2 seasons.

In the hippocampus, neuronal death was reduced substantially. “To be honest, I’m still amazed that it works,” he says. “It’s not going to help anybody soon” — the research is still years away from clinical trials — “but we’ve proved that it’s possible. We can reduce the neural damage caused by stress.”

Now for the bad news. Apparently, one of the most popular Google Trend searches for August 3 was “brain eating vaccine”.

…When the Wired article becomes available, it’s quickly picked up by London’s Daily Mail where it’s aggressively paraphrased and a little sensationalized from 6800 words down to less than 400. These 400 words in the Daily Mail imply that Sapolsky is working to create a vaccine that will eliminate feelings of stress. Based on the Daily Mail article, the kind of people who are worried that world governments are conspiring to sterilize and/or pacify their populations through drugs in their water supplies conclude that Sapolsky is working to rid us of our emotions via his vaccine project. Since this theoretical vaccine would work by altering brain chemistry, the excitable folks decide that it’s going to destroy people’s brains and thus encourage folks to search for “brain eating vaccines”.
