DVDGuy files detailed report from set of Serenity A spoiler-free tour of the set and several filmed scenes during shooting of Serenity. DVDGuy overheard this fascinating tidbit: "Universal is planning on releasing an animated prequel to Serenity." Link to Part 2.

Universal's two most recent fantasy/sci-fi efforts, Van Helsing and The Chronicles of Riddick, both received animated prequels released around the same time as the films.

Those films also both had simultaneous releases of VIDEOGAMES. That could be fun. Or horrible.

A First-Person-Shooter as Jayne would be fun.

A platformer with River, wandering through her own insane mind?

A driving game with Zoe on the Mule?

Or, of course, a flight sim as Wash ("HERE'S something you can't do!")

The mind boggles.

Funny--I can't picture a game staring the captain.

I'd love to see a MMORPG set in the firefly universe. Now that'd be something to see...

An animated movie prequel/series sequel...... sounds like an interesting proposition. I haven't seen the animated Riddick prequel, but have seen the one for Van Helsing. London Assignment was alright.

As far as a video game is concerned, I think I have a cool idea. Well, cool to me anyway. The Sega Dreamcast had a game called Skies of Arcadia. It was a RPG centering around air pirates, gathering a crew, and exploring the world. Well, my idea comes as a series prequel (much like the Riddick game, Escape From Butcher Bay is a series prequel). The game begins with Mal and Zoe after the war, taking odd jobs to get cash for a ship. Then they get Serenity. From there you fly around the 'verse, smuggling, taking part in petty crime, and (if you're real lucky) getting paid for it too. Along the way you gather crewmates such as the engineer prior to Kaylee, bribe Jayne out of killing Mal, and get shot by Patience the first time. Money earned through work can be allocated to ship upkeep, paying the crew (if you don't pay him, Jayne will leave or take over the ship), and buying equipment for the crew.

The Riddick and Van Helsing prequels weren't just animated, they were animé. As was most of the Animatrix, which seems to have started the trend.

Y'know, there are quite a few really good Chinese animation houses (for the whole Sino-American motif). . .

This could indeed be gorram shiny.

I'm thinking this could be an Animatrix-like set of short animated stories set in the FF universe...

"I left my heart in Seren-ity Val-ley..." <-- the farthest I've ever gotten in writing filk. ;)

If it's like the Van Helsing and Riddick animated prequels it will be released on DVD just before Serenity gets released at the cinema.
