Studio Interruptus: Ridley Scott's Blade Runner & Legend

That "Final Cut" Blade Runner just didn't do it for me. Horrible transfer, lots of lines and bad color/lighting on my Blu-Ray version. I like the international release the best, because it IS done as film noir, and the voice-over fits that. Also, the stiff noir style with the voice-over fits Harrison Ford's cardboard-cut-out acting style perfectly; it's the best movie he ever did, IMHO.

Well, I'm a Tangerine Dream fan, so that pretty much settles it for Legend. The TD-scored version with the happy ending that gets shown on UK TV doesn't seem to be broken. I like the occasional unhappy ending, but it isn't compulsory.
As for Blade Runner - I'd have to borrow a MiB Neuralizer so I could watch one of the "directors" versions cold and see if I spotted the unicorn reference.
...although, quite frankly, they're both "atmosphere" pieces where the plot isn't that important...
Now, talking of Studio Interruptus, I'd like to see a version of "The Golden Compass" padded out to a decent length with the proper ending (which I believe they filmed) restored.

Okay, here it is- I just went through a scene-by-scene comparison between the two versions just to get it straight in my own head... the Theatrical Cut IS the better cut of the two, much leaner and also more fanciful due to the ethereal TD score (Goldsmith is just a little to "standard" for this flick, apart from the excellent Lilly's song theme).
Director's Cut: too much talking, generally (although some of the stuff between Lilly & Darkness is cool). It's a FANTASY, and doesn't NEED all the dialogue.
Lilly: shut up with the singing to the ugly one-horned mule.
Gump: shut up with the lame riddle! Break your violin a' la Chuck Berry on your OWN time!
Meg: shut up with the not eating your tender morsel right away.
Some nice extra shots, but nothing that moves the story along.
Personally, from now on I will watch the Theatrical Cut until Jack finds the ring near the end, then promptly switch to the Director's Cut to get the wonderful final scene between Jack & Lilly in its entirety (and to avoid the awful 80's song at the end of the Theatrical).
AND, the Director's Cut DOES NOT put the kibosh on Jack & Lilly's love in the end, it merely sets a period of dating until Jack becomes comfortable with the idea of becoming a Prince...
THAT is my final word on Legend.
And I'm sticking to it.

Sooo... In the spirit of Studius Interruptus, what do y'all think of "Brazil"? What's your favorite version? "Love conquers all" ending, or darker note?
Frankly, I've only ever seen the dark ending all the way through, though I've caught the Sheinberg edit with the happy ending before, but only in pieces.

And I didn't like Brazil enough to buy the DVD to check out the "nice" edit.
Good that his Back To The Future suggestions were ignored, though.
