I was really hoping to see something like this pop up. I have been a Trekkie since the 70's (ok, i think i just showed my age!), and the one thing that Trek and it's handlers did right is to create a Universe that was rich in depth, and intricacy (sp?). I'd love to be able to ask Joss to let his Browncoats out here in the `netaverse develop the backdrops to the worlds of the Firefly verse, provided canon has not already been determined. That would be too much fun! (ok, i think i just showed how big of a nerd i am! ;)

I think the currency shown is a local one for the planet Lilac... If you look at the production photos in Dusty's second blog, you can see that the big "Welcome to Lilac" sign features the same design. Interesting that they seem to have a planet with a transverse orbit...

ETA: It looks like the Alliance consists of about 10-11 major systems and maybe a few smaller ones, based on the map.

About the Japanese label, designers aren't that dumb, they do have to do a little research. Perhaps the Japanese is intentional do you think? Joss has said that he's a fan of Japanese culture, so maybe this is part of him trying to include it into the 'verse.

Jesus, how dumb do you think they are? Japanese is not the only non-English/Chinese language represented there, not to mention there is a ton more stuff in Chinese than Japanese. Just because English and Chinese are the 'versal languages of choice does not mean that some places won't still have a preferred local language. Heck, English has pretty much reached hegemony in our world, but the other languages haven't disappeared.

Besides which, we have no idea if these are the final designs. Note that there's only Japanese in the top two images.

Maybe Lilac was historically settled by emigrants from Japan. Joss has already done some of this with Badger's home world/moon and places like Londinium and Sihnon. I'm guessing that some of these created artifacts are specific to the moon/planet where the story is taking place rather than meant to represent the 'verse as a whole.

Hey could any one tell me how I could make that fruity oaty bar pic into an avitar or buddy icon?

If people only beleive wahts in a movie, their damn well sure beleiving Serenity.
