I think Castle knows how she feels, and is scared to go there. He was upset about the boyfriend but he was more freaked by the fact that he cared that much about Becckett being in a relationship. reigniting things with his supersilious vacuuous ex-wife is his "run fast run far" tactic. Puts a gaping emotional distance between him and Beckett so he doesn't have to face the reality that he loves her and love is scary so it's best to pick people you are not that invested in...which is stupid because regardless of anything he does to deny his feelings, he's still going to feel hurt and take her with him to that place. So very Mal like.

He does know its more than a crush or a passing fancy...but does he want to go there? that's what his behaviour suggests...her having a boyfriend is just his exscuse to cut his losses...before he actually has any. ex wife = no deep attachment = no obligation or exposure. thats the way i see it any way.

This is the other ex-wife. All I think we know about the second ex-wife is that she did not like him signing women's chests from the series premiere and that she is his book publisher.

My impression is that he has less of an emotional connection to his 2nd ex wife. She seems just as superficial as Castle wants people to think he is (or used to want to) if not more so. I believe he truly loved wife no 1 (who's alot like his Mommy), and is just being cautious about potential hurt with anyone else...or maybe he's just messing with Beckett to see whether she'll fight for him...we can't forget that he's had his A_hole moments....Hell being in Australia means I've got months to wait before I can see Season 3 so I have to keep the story alive and intriguing any way I can until then :-)

Have you read "Heat Wave" yet?

I just don't see a deep connection with wife 2...I'm seeing a hedonsistic mutually agreed upon superficial level thing between them. I've spent lengthy periods on the phone with people I wasn't overly attached to, but had to engage because my career or some other essential aspect of my life would suffer if i didn't.

That sounds like a more honest way to handle things :-)...unfortunately I've had to learn to play that "stay in your job"/ "get what you need from the empowerment hungry asswipe however you can" game a few too many times. It's not cool But I can stomach it Occasionally (only Just).

Hell yeah it would have been worth listening to that exchange between Castle and Wife 2. As for the other thing...I hate hate hate being ingenuine so I at least make a point of not verbally lieing or agreeing with anything I disagree with while I'm talking to bosses and others etc...I do listen and empathise against my will at times so I guess that's ingenuine ("mmm", "uh huh", and reflective comments may very well translate as "yeah I hear you" to the person bleating in your ear),it is extremely hard and nausea inducing to 'play ball' when you make a point of aiming for sincerity in your life...unfortunatley them's the breaks when you need to get funding for your program, extra hours for clients, or the staff you need for your team. I stop short at sucking up to get stuff for myself...that I really could not do. Did it a couple of times... felt like such a loser.Kudos to you for not folding
