I watched the premiere - there are some overtones of the mini-series "Taken", and one or two of the sub-plots aren't exactly fresh, but all in all it's pretty good so far. I'll be watching Sunday nights.
MAL "You only gotta scare him."
JAYNE "Pain is scary..."

According to this report, "An astonishing 7.4 million viewers watched the premiere episode of USA Channel's sci-fi series The 4400 Sunday night, a record for a basic cable premiere. The episode in fact captured more viewers in the 18-49 demographic than any of the broadcast network competition with the exception of NBC. The previous record was held by the premiere of The Dead Zone in 2002. Only five episodes of the series have been ordered."

Quote:Shaman King is an incredibly cool manga series, currently serialized in Shonen Jump magazine (I'm reading the VIZ graphic novels though, 'cause I don't want to have to hunt back-issues). It's about an easygoing young slacker named Yoh, and his quest to be the Shaman King (previous Shaman Kings include Buddha, Ghandi, Jesus, Mohammed, and the like).

It's also airing as animé on the FOXbox saturday morning block --which does not air on my local affiliate (FOX2 Detroit), but did air, for one week, on my old affiliate (FOX31 Rochester). Gorram FUX switched stations on me one week after introducing the new shows.

The manga has a very Buffy-esque mix of horror (ghosts, some of them homicidal, frequently Possess the leads) and whimsical, self-refferential comedy (as in Buffy's "A vampire with a soul? How lame is that?" line in Tabula Rasa). At one point, when fighting an enemy, Yoh sees that they're dying (which can be Very Bad if it happens while being possessed (the host's soul gets tied up with the ghost's) and says the "Xs for eyes" line.
'Cause, see, when animé/manga characters die/pass out, they go like this: X_X
