For those wondering what the heck we're talking about, here's the post in question. It sounds legit enough.

And "Hoban?" Isn't that Korean?

I saw the movie at the premiere last Wednesday. Like other Alex Proyas movies the action and spectacle are backed up by a good and engaging story. Converse to the statements made in the above unsigned blog, Will Smith is required to act in this movie and he does his best work since Ali. This isn't a direct film translation of Asimov's amazing book by the same title. The book is a series of robot short stories. The movie is only one story with a conflict in keeeping with those in Asimov's. A robot or robots seemingly subverting their 3 Laws programming and the detective story that follows trying to uncover how and why it is happening. Some of the characters names are familliar, like Dr. Susan Clalvin, still an anti-social robo psychologist, but definately not the frumpy overwieght woman Asimov invisioned. Personally I prefer the casting of Bridget Moynihan to that of say, Kathy Bates. She just looks better in futuristic leather pants. As far as Alan Tudyk's performance goes, as Sonny the robot so much of the movie's action revolves around, I can't say. Not because I don't have an opinion, but my opinion is decidedly biased. I am Alan Tudyk. I play Sonny the robot in addition to Wash the pilot. I don't usually write on this site because I'm usually in agreement with the positive support of our crew on Serenity. My comments would amount to, "I agree, I agree, me too, me too." I did feel the need to write today however because the comments were so negative about a product no one commenting has seen. As someone who spent 6 months shooting it and now having seen it, I hope to stem the premature bashing and encourage you to withhold your opinion until you have had a chance to view it. The trailers focus on the action with only a hint at the story. Trailers have to be big action, shoot em up, adrenaline pumpers, and I am happy to report, that the story is too layered and complex to get across in the short form of a trailer.

One last thing. I, Robot has been great for Serenity. Between the premiere and the press junket that finished Friday, I have given interviews to 75 to 100 journalists. More than most asked what I was doing now (we all know what that is), or just plain asked how Serenity was going. I was happy to report we are still flying and all was shiny. I couldn't say too much about the story or else Joss would change all my lines to Chinese.

So, please express your opinions of 'I, Robot' the movie freely, just wait till you have an informed one to do so. It opens July 16th, this Friday in case you didn't know.
