What GWEK said. Only really, lots of people are making this mistake. I think that's why Jose has been so frustrated, he was a little too subtle.

But the ending specifically says this was just Mal contemplating the worst-case scenario if he sent out the broadwave.

GWEK, I assume you are referring to the tense change at the end. Believe me, we are aware, it is Mal musing during his conflict with the Operative in Serenity, but that doesn’t negate any of the foreshadowing for the future, some of the events could happen.

It may not be as canon as Float Out, but Joss did give his authorization for these authors to write, and essentially it is the first time we’ve had an opportunity to visit inside Mal’s head, as only a first person narrative would allow. Jose did capture Mal’s voice rather well.

On this basis, it does warrant validity, but, like you said, it really doesn’t matter in the greater scheme of things.

True. The way I've looked at it, if it's in Crystal it's inevitable, and anything in both Crystal AND Take the Sky is a clarification.

Not Float Out, it's Take the Sky, one of the three new short stories in Still Flying.

AAHH!I'm a very happy little browncoat at the moment. I had no idea it was just him contemplating his future with his usual pessimistic outlook so thanks so much for clearing that up! Also another friend recently made made an unexpected conversion to Browncoatism which is always a plus!!

We're EVERYWHERE.

In the non-creepy stalker way, obviously.
