Wash doesn't need to be a badass. That's what Zoe is for. Two badasses in a marriage would only make for even more conflicts. Wash's jobs are to to be a good pilot of Firefly and a supportive husband to Zoe. That he's also good in bed is an added bonus (do you honestly think that Zoe would put up with LESS?)

[Aside: notice that the Zoe/Wash relationship in Firefly mirrors the Nebule/Iolaus relationship in Hercules -- Gina's characters are consistantly the strong warrior while her romantic partners are often not particularly butch but can be depended on in when the going gets tough]

currently seeking Wash
ZaftigZoe

I will agree with Zaftigzoe and re-state what I said in the earlier threads. . .Wash is a goofball, which is what makes his marriage to Zoe so great.

Wash is the 'token' goofball of the crew, a-la "Howling Mad" Murdock of The A-Team. (rumor: to be played by Owen Wilson in a big-screen version)

FOLKS. . .LOOK AT THE CONTEXT IN WHICH THAT PICTURE APPEARED! I'd be willing to bet a dollar that the picture is a candid shot of Alan. . .NOT of 'Wash'!

"Wash. . .we got some local color happening. A grand entrance would not go amiss."

I agree with Static and ZaftigZoe. As I've said elsewhere, people's ability to see what they want to see rather than what's there seems to be enhanced in an Election Year

My take on Wash's backstory is that he avoided the draft by joining the Air National Guard, and got involved with criminals to feed his coke habit.

But then, there are those who can see Jayne as something other than a weak, blustering bully

i would say it is a candid pic --yet Alan probably does not dress that way to hang around the set so it is Wsh
