My Hollywood pal said that the 2000's sucked worse than any other time in film-making history for greatness in movies.
To prove him wrong (or at least not entirely correct) I made my list:
Serenity
Seraphim Falls
Moon
Iron Man
Batman Begins
The Constant Gardner
Sherlock Holmes
Avatar
Ponyo
Solaris
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
V For Vendetta
Watchmen
Indiana Jones and The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (Heh, just pissin' off a friend here at FFF
)
So, I'm totally missing many greats here, help me out, my peeps!

I understand that you have the right to your opinion even if it is the wrong (or not entirely correct) opinion. (joke)
I'll second you with:
Serenity, Moon, Avatar, Batman Begins, Iron Man, Watchmen and V For Vendetta.
And I'll add:
The Dark Knight
Bourne Trilogy
Star Trek
The Hurt Locker
District 9
Cars
Wall-E
Up
Lord Of The Rings Trilogy
Pan's Labyrinth
To name a few others but there are more.
Your Hollywood pal is definitely wrong and needs to start watching some of these decent films.

My Dad used to say "They don't make films like THAT any more (referring to the 30's & 40's)"- whoah, knock knock, Cursed Earth Pizza! Of COURSE they don't. Like they don't drive model T's!

I vote for
Wedding Crashers
Knocked Up
Forgetting Sarah Marshal
for comedies.
Garden State - just for an odd movie that I can watch over and over
The Departed - I know it's a remake but I still like it
Enchanted - Amy Adams is yummy and it was pretty funny for what it was

2000 - 2010. Best films thus far eh..... Hmmm
1) SERENITY - Well it just rules! Joss Whedon's masterpice.... ON THE BIG SCREEN!!!!!
2) AMELIE - Inventive and cheerful. One of the hardest things to pull off is a 'happy' film. This breezes it!
3) BE KIND REWIND - Just relished in it's love of cinema.
4) CLOVERFIELD - I love monster films!
5) UP - First ten minutes are incredible! The rest is simply charming.
6) THE DESCENT - Good, violent and scary horror film.
7) THE BOURNE ULTIMATUM - Crapped all over whatever Bond had to offer this decade. Great action and great fight scenes!
8) CROUCHING TIGER HIDDEN DRAGON - All imitators stand aside. A genuine love story that makes sense.
9) SHAUN OF THE DEAD - Traditional British comedy with spice and energy.
10) LIFE AQUATIC WITH STEVE ZISSOU - Off beat and imaginative comedy with some subtle yet brilliant animation.
I wouldn't have said this decade is the worst for cinema - I actually think there has been some imaginative cinematic concepts so far. One thing that could be dissapointing in retrospect is the trend to limit character development and character dialogue in favour of action. But then action has certainly improved so...![]()
