Gino,
I'm jealous. When I announced that I would leave RWED, nobody begged me to stay. Well, Chris said something nice to me privately, because he is sweetisall. But there certainly wasn't a thread about it, let alone a long thread.
I think that is a sign that you are an important member of a community--of a "family" of sorts. Eight years after our beloved show aired, we are all still here, bickering, but here. I think that should count something towards "family."
I hope that in 30 years, you will all still be here, bitching at each other.

Holy crap Gino....what the hell happened?
You were like peas and carrots with the others a few weeks ago.
Where was I when this wrathful fallout took place.
And oh yeah stick around. People will bully and hound you in the RWED when they feel they are wrong, and can't back up their facts. Just sayin.

Folks, when people say they hate the USA, believe them and don't act like such crybabies.
Gino used words. In the future, more violent people will use real weapons. If you get flustered over THIS, what are you going to do THEN?
I understand that "you" want to distance yourself from USA policies and politics. But the fact is that from a distance, we all look alike to "them"... particularly if "they've" just had their family killed and their village devastated. How YOU would feel if you were in that vast open-air prison they call Gaza, knowing that USA support makes it all possible?
If we lived in a tyranny, it would be easy for people to say... well, they didn't have a choice. But we live in a democracy after all.

Cause what you're saying here completely misrepresents what went down.

I read the beginning part and missed the middle. But it all boils down to one thing: Take a deep breath, like I do when I read Whozit's and Rappy's entirely useless, baseless posts. Or back off and ignore them all together.

Yeah, Democratic. We voted for Obama to replace someone who was killing our international reputation and policies... And we still ended up with a troop surge in Afghanistan anyway. That's SURELY what we all voted for.
And that's what people like Gino see and think, and the people who America keeps bombing. That based on the idea that America has a leadership "representing" the will of its people, that all Americans are real class 1 A-holes.
I'm going to say it. We need a national debate on the military and intelligence budget. We say we go in to help people, and people end up dying, and we piss off their families. We keep making people who want to kill us, seems self-defeating if the goal is to make America SAFER. Then we recruit more troops, send over more bombs, piss more people off?
We want a military, let's go back to state militias. I don't see what business we have in other people's countries. They try to come over here and start something, THEN we can kick their asses. Otherwise we're just making the world more unfriendly and less safe for Americans.
And I doubt any of this, if it were to occur, would be by a vote of our representatives, who are firmly in the pocket of lobbists. Such close connections between money, industry, and power nowadays.
If we really wanted this, the only way I can see to do it within the system is campaign finance reform and changing how we elect people. Then the American public might actually have a say in policy. But I don't think very many Americans actually DO want this.

Bytemite: yeah. What you said. As in ditto.
OK, and did anyone watch the cat video? I had to watch a good 10 times and laughed till I cried every time. OMG, that is one pissed off cat!

Me, too, Byte, on a lot of what you wrote. And I've long held that campaign reform is the ONLY way we can regain some semblance of democracy. I wish they weren't so in the pockets of you-know-who that they'd actually vote for it. Eh...
Not to mention the Electoral College, eh?
We don't have a democracy. I'm not sure what you'd call what we have, but it's definitely not a "representative democracy" and hasn't been for a long time. Saying we're a democracy so we should be able to change it is naive, in my opinion.
CantTake, if I'd been around and seen you threaten to leave, I'd have asked you to stay. Mostly people here get into disagreements or misunderstandings and work it out, or agree to disagree; there's no reason for anyone to leave, and we're poorer for each voice we lose.
Oppyh, I went over everything that happened, and others put their piece in. If you think we bullied or hounded Gino (except maybe for Story...), you're way off the mark. We tried like hell to reason with him, and then HE started bullying ME...about which I'm not complaining, mind you, nobody can hurt one another on the internet. But you've definitely got things reversed.
Sig, I agree with most of what you said, but I disagree that anyone acted like a "crybaby". Virtually all of us here AGREE with Gino; it's only his repeated desire to do violence to the US, and to us personally, that was the problem.
I also don't think anyone here wants to distance themselves; we're pretty much ALL pissed off and badly want to see change, we just don't know how to go about it, nor do we think each individual should be punished because their government is misbehaving--in ANY country. I would no more hold a dissident in Iran or Afghanistan or anywhere else responsible for a government they can't control, unless they take up violence and kill innocent civilians. Which America has done, and which I abhor. I'm definitely not distanced from my government; I just don't have the power to change it, tho' I do everything I can.
I, too, never put Gino in a class with PN, etc., which is why I and others kept discussing the issue with him. When it became obviously futile, I gave up...so did some others. When he deleted all his posts and left, we were sad and confused. When he came back and started in all over again, I called him on it. HE went crybaby and put up this thread, despite the fact that nobody, absolutely nobody, had asked him to leave in any way whatsoever.
Yes, Mal4, I caught the video--several times, just like you. Choey came up and I ran it for her, and she almost fell down laughing. It's a great video--I'd feel sorry for the cat since most animals get nasty when feeling cornered, but from what I saw, he was just a pissed-off cat, not a defensive one. Glad he wasn't MY cat!!!
