Just how nifty is the TiVo? And how pricey for what it does? Is it just a glorified VCR or what? (I know it has a hard drive or something, not a tape.)

I use my computer and an ATI 8500 128 MB AllInWonder video card to schedule and record the shows I want from my cable. The quality looks great when output to TV.
