Stop boycotting the good stuff

I like Last Comic Standing. I like the amazing race too, and I will watch it when it comes on next week. I don't think it is right to lump all reality shows. Some are good, some aren't. The Casino...horrific. Amazing race...good.

The jury is allright, but nothing too special. I have it on a season pass. I would hardly call it great television, especially compared to Murder One (the only show I rate above firefly) before it got cancelled in the mid 90's.

But a few things to think about:

Unless you have a nielsen box, it doesn't matter what you watch, you won't affect the ratings. A boycott would do nothing. Tivo actually keeps track of what everyone watches, as a pseudo ratings alternative for a select few viewers out there, but even that doesn't help, because the tivo users don't watch commercials!

Clearly the Jury isn't suffering because of any boycott of Fox, because you pointed out that the simple life was #1, and that is a show on fox.

Set to go, snap. ball down, kick up, its on the way and, it, is...good! It's good! It's good! Adam Vinatieri booms a 48 yard field goal! And the game is over, and the Patriots are superbowl champions! The best team in the national football league!

I sat down and watched The Jury the very first night to support Adam, I watched the first and just couldn't make it thru the second. Cheesy writing, bad supporting cast for jurors. The only thing I liked about it was the Baliff guy that is friends with Adam's character. Adam's character I thought was just wierd. When in the second episode he just starts singing for no reason and the bailiff asks him what he's doing, Adam replies "I don't know", that pretty much summed up my feelings on the whole show.
Other than that, except for That 70's Show, I don't like what Fox has to offer.

I shouldn't have implied that I thought The Jury was good stuff. It's nothing super special. But it isn't reality, and it is one of very few things on Fox that has an actual plot. It's better to watch than The Simple Life. Not to mention all the actors, writers and producers, like our dear Joss, who are out of work because cheap labor is so readily available, and so many people are willing to watch it.

On the other hand, the people who would be watching the good things on TV are tuning out. Even Nip/Tuck, which is pretty much the only really good thing on in the summer, didn't draw as big a crowd as The Simple Life. It's just depressing. I happen to like TV, and there's only so many times you can watch the same old episodes of Firefly before you get restless for something new. And anything new doesn't catch enough viewers or word of mouth discussion to stay on the air. So we are stuck with Nicole and Paris. Ugh.

Man, Last Comic Standing is kinda funny though I tune out when they start getting into the "drama". Actually, one of the funniest moments to me was when someone said something like "when did this become the Real World??" and then there was a moment where the writing and scene looked like Real World. Now, that was funny!

But I understand your frustration. I think Fox only put The Jury on during the summer cause they didn't think it would work during the main season. I'm not much into courtroom drama, but I'd hate to see any decent show get the boot while reality crap lives on.

I'm not boycotting Fox. The only time I watch it is all the shows on Sunday nights, That 70's Show, The Jury (I find it really interesting), Quintouplets, and any good movie showing on it.

There isn't many good shows on Fox these days...

When I went to Moonlight Rising last month, someone asked James Leary about reality shows and he said this is like the lowest employment rate for writers in the past ten years. It's really hurting the actors and writers.

The first couple of Jury episodes were sort of weak, but it is getting better. I thought Tuesday's episode was very strong. But I never could stand Adam on Buffy, and there at least he was supposed to be the villain. I don't like him any better here, and most of the regulars are bland. If it's an interesting case with some good jurors, it's OK.

I am not actively boycotting Fox, I simply do not watch them because they have nothing worth watching since they canned Wonderfalls.

To be honest, w/ the exception of the History and Discovery Channels, I only watch perhaps 4 or 5 shows which add up to perhaps 3-4 hours of television in a week. I read for the most part.

I hadn't watched it, but I caught a repeat episode a couple of days ago and thought it was OK. It's basically just another lawyer show, but shown from the jury's perspective instead. Basically, it just seems to show what all the other lawyer shows do - that our "justice" system is screwed up beyond belief - nothing really new there. But I guess I'll keep watching it just because Adam is on it.

I canceled mine long before that. I only watched a couple of the stations to begin with. But when they raised the monthly charge AND took away one of the channels I watched and replaced it with a shopping channel I canceled. Luckily, Angel was on broadcast TV.

The only TV I watch now is Angel reruns since I didn't see the first 3.5 seasons. My suggestion? Go to the video store. We can rent 2 movies for $1 at Family Video. We've seen Danny Kay in the "Secret Life of Walter Mitty" and Jimmy Stewart in "The Shop Around the Corner". I recommend both.
