Everyone in US Custody has a measure of Constitutional rights. Some rights are expressly reserved to citizens, others are expressly reserved to persons.

One, I do not support torture of anyone.

Two, I do not define torture as broadly as you do.

Three, the Constitution allows a person to be deprived of their life, liberty, and property so long as they are given Due Process of Law. I read this to mean that should a person get a hearing before a neutral magistrate and the law is followed, then anything (within said law and subject to the magistrate's restraint) goes.

Four, the Supreme Court has said that the Constitution is not a suicide pact and I agree. While I do not support torture, I would allow it under specific exigent circumstances (ie a bomb is going to explode killing x number of people and Jack has to hurt somebody to stop it...I'm ok with that).

Its hardly cheerleading...its tragic at best.

Actually, my feelings on it are pretty close to yours, Miss Byte - problem is, I know just how stupid *not finishing the job* is, having seen it politically bite us on the ass again and again.

Quick, Clean, Dispassionate.

Every instant one spends screwing around is one more chance for the opportunity to be wasted, and emotional investment in revenge for the sake of itself is the very pointless madness that feeds the cycle.

If someone has reached the point where they have warped, twisted or destroyed their own humanity to the point where they are that much of a threat to their fellow man, and it comes to such an impasse...
