Were you all Sci-Fi fans before Firefly?

I have enjoyed Sci-Fi/Fantasy all of my life. The first movie I remember watching in the theatre is "Star Trek II: The Wrath of Kahn". First big cartoon I distinctly remember: Bass/Rankin's "The Hobbit". First toys I remember having: Star Wars (Han Solo, Darth Vader, Yoda, Luke Skywalker Pilot, Leia, Boba Feet, Chewie, Lando, R2D2, C3P0).

It was the older that I got is when I wanted more from my SciFi. Fortunately, DS9 was good when it was out (never was a B5 fan), followed by Farscape and then trumped by Firefly. Those three shows complete my SciFi TV watching and the only three series that I will stop down to watch if they are on TV.

If Adam Baldwin does make it to SG:Atlantis, I will add that show to my Season Pass.

Seems as good a place as any to Introduce myself..

Hello, Folks.
Please call me Fox or FX.
Absolutley no relation to the Network that cancelled Firefly.

Always been a Fan of sorts of Sci-Fi.
Watched the Star Treck (TOS) as a kid (in re-runs), Saw Star Wars opening day way back when and etc...

Right now, my faves are..
Farscape (congrats on the return, guys)
Firefly (Congrats are in order there as well)
Star Wars (IV, V & VI. Not I & II)
Red Dwarf (Which I consider more of a Comedy than a Sci-Fi)
And various other Sci-Fi movies.

Well, I guess that covers the question.

A quick note to the Cast & Crew of the show:
Well Done, Looking forward to the Movie.

And on to the Signature (Which is not Firefly related, jut my standard Sig that I use everywhere)

I'm fascinated with space. Like a lot of posters, I too saw Star Wars and it was all over after that. I don’t think a week goes by that I don’t quote a line from the Trilogy. I’ve always loved the night sky and got a telescope one Christmas. (I only have a small one now.) One of my fondest memories of childhood is eating Shakey’s pizza with my parents while watching Star Trek, the episode with the globby monsters on the ceiling. Please forgive me, I don’t know the name but I think you guys get the point. We also watched Battlestar Galactica and Buck Rogers. I appreciate science fiction because it provides a glimpse into what could be the future, and more than often, what actually comes to pass.

I watched Buffy and Angel but didn’t see Firefly until 2 months ago. Fox’s poor advertising trailers didn’t encourage me to tune in. Still, I haven’t stopped watching Firefly every day since! It’s my new favorite obsession. I've got a few mp3's in my iTunes, my favorite being the "wobbly headed doll caper."

I think it's magic. You watch it and become immersed and want to share it with everyone. I love that there are still wonderful things in this crazy world to care about (and not JUST Firefly).

Yeah, I s'pose I was a sci-fi fan. I liked Farscape and Babylon 5. Original Star Trek and Star Wars were good, not so much the newer ones. Original Time Tunnel was hi-larious.

Yep, definitely a sci-fi fan. That was probably the reason I tried Firefly in the first place.

I guess I am. I'm not sure. I'm a mishmash type. I like just about all types although I do like Sci-Fi and find them more interesting than the rest.

...So I guess the answer is Yes O_o;; Sorry for the long estimate.

Ahem, thought I'd pop in here and enter in my two cents.

I loved sci-fi and fantasy long before I saw Firefly. I used to be a fan of the Matrix movie (the first one) and the original Star Wars trilogy. The second and third Matrix films were uneven in quality and the SW prequels were a disappointment, so I left those fandoms for greener pastures, AKA Firefly and Lord of the Rings.

EDIT: As of July and August 2004, I am now testing the waters of the Babylon 5 fandom. Bought myself a first season DVD set and am enjoying it quite a bit. Val-Tooooo!

I wasn't a big Sci-fi fan before, and I'm not one now.

I mean, I liked the big ones, the best of the genre, but I've always that being a genre fan is more about tolerating the less good.

In that sense, I'm more of a horror and kung fu fan.

But I'm still a Firefly fan, through and through.
