geruh,
I need a holiday, or at least a coupld of days at home to catch up with OU work, sleep, blog, IBS is awful at the mo although at least other half is basically back up and running after wisdom teeth.
So far this week I went to Wrexham, worked till half seven then went to hotel, worked next day and got home past seven again, things falling over and haven't left work before six this week and I'm not even rota'd on 24/7 support this week. I know there are worse shifts in the world and I promise not to complain too much but this is doing me no favours health wise.
Ah well, washing up and hopefully I might have time to curl up with new Justina Robson book for a little.
How are we all doing? A day of computer games...I wish!
Oh yeah, discovery of the day, Steve Vai played on a Motorhead album, happy gee!

Bite size bliss.
Well, the potential new place coughed up another two bucks an hour, guaranteed, and I was practically promised it would go up after the initial trial period of 13 weeks.
Plus the semiannual review would be six months after my original start date (Monday)so that's three months after I've gone permanent.
Plus, if it iz teh sukz the agency will cheerfully pull me the hell outta there and we can start over again.
So I decided that it was steady income consistently, I might learn valuable stuff and stretch a little, I wouldn't be in charge, and people sounded like they laughed there enough to make it worth giving it a shot.
I'm still not going to be making what I would have, but it's close enough for now. The agency will even pitch in a buck an hour to see to it that I'm getting what I've been earning at my other jobs with them.
I feel like such a jackass being picky when there's tens and tens of thousands of people out of work, and I know some of them, but I have to look out for my family and my sanity.
I'm not trying to be greedy, I'm not so full of myself that I think I can just make unreasonable demands.. I am worth every penny of what I'm getting and (according to their own HR department earlier this year) a full two dollars an hour more to start. I will not be stuck in the same position I was where I was woefully underpaid and abused. I will perform to expectations and likely exceed them. Finally: every dollar an hour translates to $2,080 a year gross. I walked in expecting $x and they turned around and asked me to do the job for $8,000-12,000 less per year.
Um... let me think... FUCK NO.
I'm looking at a buck an hour less than I'm making now ($2080 less a year) but I'm moving to what might be able to make up for it in terms of environment and enjoyability. It would have been nice to go up 2k-6k like I was expecting at the interview, but there will be time for that.
And if it fails to manifest I will pack up my stethoscope and comfy shoes and walk back out the door.
Dialing the agency on my way through the lobby.
You know, I should probably just cut and paste this to my blog...
So, Barkeep! A round for the house on me because I have a new job on Monday!
(Jumps behind the bar to tend it. Starts pouring)
Why not start your virtual weekend at 7:04 on Friday?!

To answer myself: because of the virtual hangover Monday?
I made it! I am free!
Now, on to wage slavery at a new location.
I'm debating whether I should go out and watch movies at friends' house or stay in and relax. It's snowy.
Hm.

Hope the new job works out, SR :)
I vote for staying home if it's snowy, but that's me and my dislike of the cold fluffy stuff lol.

For feeling like a jackass?
At least it means I haven't become hardened to the plight of others and developed an overblown sense of my own worth...?
(I'm still worth it.)

If you don't look out for your family and sanity, you can't duck behind the couch when they approach and then THEY CAN FIND YOU!
Quiet corners of the basement work well, and crawlspace attics are very effective hiding places.
"Sanity bedamned, I'm for the closet!"
(Sometimes being deliberately obtuse fails to convey the thought behind it. I'm one of those absurd people who can find humor in misapprehension, passing the mental giggle along is occasionally beyond me. And thank you for your support.)
