Stop boycotting the good stuff

I was just reading the ratings for this week. "The Simple Life 2" was the top rated show. "Last Comic Standing" and "Who Wants to Marry my Dad" trailed at 2nd and 3rd.

And way, way behind them, so far behind them that it probably won't last the season, was "The Jury," a drama with characters and plots and even Warren from Buffy. But nobody watched it, becaues all the people who would watch it are busy boycotting Fox. So instead, all the people who have no brain cells and no taste are watching Reality shows and proving that they are the cash cows.

So unless people start watching the things that aren't Reality, we will continue to be inundated with this crap-o-rama. And everything that is not crap will continue to get cancelled. And I just can't take it any more! I can't! Somebody, for god's sake, tell me a frelling weekly story that lasts and hour and makes me think!

well personally I haven't found any good stuff.

The Jury is very slow and dull, with the one bright spot being whenever Adam Busch (aka Warren) is on the screen (I'm noticing an increase in screen time for him...maybe the show's producers have noticed how good he is too). Actually I haven't stopped watching that show, I just fast forward thru all the dull (most of it) parts.

I have never watched any of the 'reality' (stupid low bow departures from reality) you mentioned....

Pretty much all I've been watching are
Queer Eye on Bravo
and Monk on USA...
not because I'm boycotting anything, but these are the only good shows on.

I don't think everyone is necessarily boycotting Fox (although I don't doubt that there are some and its not like Fox doesn't deserve it ) I think part of the problem is that its summer and people aren't watching tv.

Or it could be the whole once bitten twice shy thing -why get involved with a show that will likely get cancelled.

Personally, I don't really like courtroom/lawfirm type shows and there seems to be a lot of them at the moment. That's why I'm not watching, it has nothing to do with Fox.

I do understand your frustration about the lack of good stories. With the exception of repeats of shows I already watch, I'm not watching any tv (and that's only because I happen to have extra time on my hands at the moment). There's nothing new that's compelling enough to make me watch the next week .

That said, I will be watching the Amazing Race. I can't help it, I love that show.

Any medium that derives its income directly from advertisers is destined to become a crapfest. I'm not boycotting TV, I've given up on it. In the process I've found quite a different perspective. It's amazing how loud and obnoxious television is when you're not exposed to it on a daily basis. Equally amazing is just how deeply television pervades our culture.

I don't think that I actively boycott Fox -- just don't like much they have to offer. About the only things I watch on any of the regular networks are Seinfeld re-runs, and that's mostly TBS, which kinda doesn't count.

Sounds like a lot of us don't watch TV much. What are the folks watching who do come home and plop themselves down in front of it?

I mostly stick to The History Channel or Discovery Times, and if I'm feeling like fluff, I'll watch The Travel Channel, E!, or Food Network.

course it is rerun season so I am catching up on Movies on SHO or HBO

thou I think new episodes of some syndiated series-ie Stargate SG1 etc are due to start in July

also love History Detectives on PBS

ah and Hillermans Thief of Time is on next weekend

I'm not boycotting tv. I'm one of the ones who's given up on it completely. I had my cable disconnected the day after the "Angel" finale repeat. My cable bill kept increasing while the quality of the programming kept plummeting. Why waste the money. Now I'm just buying dvd's of movies and shows that I know I like. There's really quite a treasure trove of movies and shows on dvd from over the last forty years. Things like "The Saint" (the show, not the movie) and "The Avengers", as well as the newer things from Joss.

If I ever hear that Joss has another show coming back on tv, I'll renew my cable subscription - but not before then.

I haven't been actively boycotting Fox, they've done it for me.

They haven't really had much good on to watch!

Used to be I watched Fox 95% of the time. Now it's a rarity.

On weeknights, I watch the reruns of Simpsons and Seinfeld (6-7 in Chicago) and on Sundays, I watch the Simpsons and Arrested Development and the only other show I can think of that I watch on that station is That 70's Show.

Other than that, I'm watching other channels.

Heck, I've even gotten into watching RFD-TV (and that's just sad, even if I DO live in the country!)

Same here Jake7, fox hasn't had anything good on, nor do I have the drive to go look for anything on network TV. I scan the guide online and look for shows to record during the week, record them, then watch them. That's it. That and rentals from Netflix keep me goin. Only reason I have to be with my cable company is to pay for my cable modem. When I become truly bored with TV I probably will just drop the channels, but there are some good shows in syndication that I watch. Like the first few seasons of Angel, and DS9 when it is about to start up the dominion war thing soon.
