Here's a link to an organization founded by our pastor and supported by our and several other churches. We have been active in the city of Jacmal for years and are concentrating our relief efforts there.

This week we're concentrating on getting a shipment of vaccines and antibiotics to Team Ange.

Good on you and your folks, Fivver; it's always heartening to hear of those still working there. I hear donations have dropped off a lot among the general public; not surprising, given time has passed, but there's SO much to do, I hope we don't forget too soon and that organizations such as yours hang in there!

I been holding comment on the whole issue of the Haitain children being taken out of the country by a bunch of Baptist missionaries cause I didn't want to start flaming a bunch of folk who may have simply been well-meaning dolts...

And then a name on our "list" pops up.
Jorge Anibal Torres Puello.

Not nice dude, positively linked to at least one freak feeder system, his wife was in fact convicted, and he's still wanted as a suspect - and suspected of involvement in a couple more, and that's just out of our files, haven't checked with Jackie (Miss De Croy) yet to see what she has on him.

Apparently there's some suspicion in relation to Laura Silsby's intentions as well, given her outstanding financial obligations and involvement with this goon and his associates.

More when I know more, but some serious bad juju comin offa this one.

Man, that was like a whole month ago or something.

With the extensive damage involved, the horrific death count, as well as the tragic injuries, continued aid will be needed for months and years.

Getting the basic utilities ( or what passes for such in Haiti, will be a monumental task. And all the while , a huge population needs shelter, food, and basic economic activity.

Oh holy crap.

I hadn't even considered this before, my sheltered brain being slow on the move and all. But all these children would be so very vulnerable to predators, within and without. Especially since Haiti already has a history of child trafficing and such. Ugh.

How closely are these things being watched??

Sadly, for the most part - they ain't.

There's a few organizations that try, but they have jack for funding and no real authority, as well as often winding up on the pissed off list of well connected folks who profit from this trade, which is a more serious problem in the EU than here since it's a lot harder to hide in our society and there's quite a few folks who will play rough on that kind of thing if they have to.

Best bet if you wanna stick an oar in those waters is ECPAT, which came to prominence on the Don't-buy-Thai boycott in response to Thailand's government being an active and intentional participant in the trafficking.

What did New Oleans have.... 1,200 fatalities ? vs some 250,000 in Haiti ?

And why the 9th Ward might be on par w/ the areas around Port au Prince, the heart of the city of New Orleans actually faired quite well. The entire Gulf region is likely a more accurate comparison.

Cuba can barely feed its own population. They're in no position to take Haiti over, even under the best circumstances.
