Ever hear of a fantastic movie that is going to be made to find out it gets scrapped before production?

I have had a couple such experiences they are:

Untitled Coen brothers SCI-Fi movie. in early 2002, I heard that the Coen brothers(Fargo, Miller's Crossing) were starting to write a sci-fi epic. Now if you are like me the sheer geekdom/fanboy aspect of this was off the charts by a mile. I was in shock. I could only imagine a sci-fi film with an amazing story(and probably not an iota of CGI].

Turns out it never got past the talking stages

Goonies Sequel. If done right, this may have turned out to be very interesting. Oh well.

But for every couple rumors that are crushed, there are the rumors that become reality. TRON LEGACY anyone?

Such is the biz. I was disappointing when the Coen's WWII flick died a few years ago, myself.

On the flip side, I've anticipated several different film versions of A Princess of Mars over the years, only to watch each fall apart. But there's been one (gawd-awful, avoid at all costs) version this year, and the )oh-please-oh-please-be-good) version that Pixar(but not really Pixar) is shooting right now.

I've been waiting a very long time for Terry Gilliam's The Man Who Killed Don Quixote. He has had difficulties with almost everything he has done, and this film has already stalled twice. It's back on his schedule but I wouldn't be surprised to be waiting a whole lot longer.

Gilliam has seemingly been cursed. I'm amazed he finished Dr. Parnassus, under the circumstances.

Though if Depp returns for Quixote 2.0, the money will probably flow a little more freely than the first time around.

I waited more than 20 years for one of my favourite books to be made into a movie.. I now wish Battlefield Earth had never gotten onto the screen.

A fair point. But in this case, I'm hoping "from the director of Wall-E" bears out better than "from the second unit director on The Phantom Menace."

Thought I'd heard about a miniseries of Ayn Rand's "Atlas Shrugged" at one point, but never heard anything else about it.

Confederation of Dunces gets talked about every two years or so, but again, nothing ever really seems to come of it.

And didn't Morgan Freeman option Arthur C. Clarke's "Rendezvous With Rama"? Like to see that one. Or not, if they were planning on ruining it. ;)

I wish someone would try "Venus On The Half-Shell" someday, but it would have to be Terry Gilliam, and I'm not sure even he could pull it off. It was published under the author name "Kilgore Trout", and it FELT like a Vonnegut book (Kilgore Trout appeared in Vonnegut's bestselling "Breakfast of Champions" and "Slaughterhouse-Five"), but it was actually written under a pseudonym by Phillip José Farmer, who also wrote the "Riverworld" books.

Speaking of which... Wasn't there supposed to be a movie based on them? (Not the horrible SciFy mini they tried)

As a kid, I remember being very disappointed when the TRON sequel did not materialize. I don't remember much of the projected plot, but I think it included the return of Sark, and Tron being elevated to the "level" of Master Control Program, and being called "Tron Invictus."

Reboot and CGI Thundercats comes to mind. I've heard rumors for both, and both have apparently been shelved for the time being.

No movie I know of, but SyFy is currently in production on a new series pilot based on the books - and completely unrelated to their prior version. I believe it stars Tahmoh Pinikett of BSG and Dollhouse.
