Were you all Sci-Fi fans before Firefly?

I've never been a fan of anything before in my life. I've liked lots of shows and movies but didn't really care if I never saw a particular show again until Firefly. I can't begin to describe the feelings it causes in me or why. I was just wondering if the majority of Browncoats are also Trekkies, Star Wars fans, etc. or am I the norm and Firefly reaches the unreachable.

I feel so strongly about Firefly I would gladly work on the show/movie for free just because I would know I was contributing to something bigger than myself (also something I never thought I'd care about). Firefly seems to have an affect on me like it does for Jayne, making me care again, or maybe for the first time, about something larger than and other than myself. Has this happened to any of you, or were you all wonderful human beings to begin with?

I never enjoyed reading books when at school, when I started my apprenticeship my boss got me reading a Sci-Fi book and from that moment on I couldnt get enough. 20 years on and Sci Fi is my biggest passion and I now have quite sizable Sci Fi video and book libraries.

I also am totally in awe of Firefly, its by far my most favourite TV show and for the millionth time state that "I cant believe they cancelled it"

Hell yes! I can only be described as a 'true' show fan of Farscape, though... since I went to the London rally, been to see some of the stars, sent a bunch of e-mails, that kind of thing.

Otherwise, yeah, books, TV, movies, RPGs, and the rest. Firefly is just another fine example of the genre.

"Just another"? Should've said one of the best examples on TV... or in the cinema as the case may be

I was a Buffy fan first - but Whedon's shows are the only things I've ever really been a fan of.

I liked sci fi already, though.

I have been a fan of sci-fi for quite some time. I think Star Wars started it for me way back in 1977 when I saw it for the first time in a drive in theatre. I have enjoyed reading sci-fi & seeing sci-fi movies ever since.

You tell me.

Been readin' SciFi since around 1961. Been watchin' it every chance I get for as long as I remember. Firefly is a sugar rose on the cake! Glad it came along.

I watched a lot of sci-fi, but was never a fan of anything. Then along comes Firefly. I think its fair to say I have passed the fan stage and am rapidly heading into being an obsessive . I watch it continually, have joined fan sites, attend cons and buy anything related to Firefly, even if its a magazine with one line about the show.

I read my first SF book in 1967, and rarely read anything else but SF now. I had already been a fan of shows like The Outer Limits and The Twilight Zone, and also the original Star Trek. I try to check out all the genre shows that come on TV, but so few satisfy like Firefly. For the longest time I thought Babylon 5 was the best SF to have ever appeared on tv, but if Firefly had been give more of a chance I think it could have easily surpassed it, in fact comes damn close with the few eps we did get.

never been the bigest scifi fan, i like star wars but think the original trilogy is hugely over-rated. i despise star trek, just, umm, cos. loved the matrices and joss' other shows, not sure i'd call them scifi though. so, ummm, i don't have anything against scifi, but i dont watch stuff just cos it is. the only reason i bought the firefly dvds is joss.
