Sony Rebooting Spider-Man in 2012!

And Ock in 2 was FAR more interesting than the comic character ever was.

The studio forced him to shoehorn Venom into 3 because he's popular. The reason Raimi walked on this one was because the studio wouldn't let him use villains from the comic.

Now, they're free to hire a company man that'll do whatever the studio wants without a fight. Don't hold your breath for stories closer to the comic - the Execs don't have a clue what the comic stories are, and could care less.

If you think they're going to make slavishly faithful adaptations.... you are naive at best. You are far more likely to get the opposite of what you are asking for. Enjoy.

Exactly. This "reboot" will probably be closer to "Twilight" than Spiderman. You can expect even the super villains to be teenagers also. Laugh at me now, cry when it becomes a reality.

The sad thing is Spidey 4 was shaping up nicely.

Apparently John Malkovich was strongly considered as the role of the Vulture. And Raimi would have had complete creative control concerning the story.

Seriously, this is bad, bad news in the Super hero movie department.

Unless you work for Sony Studios how do you know what went on behind the scenes? I don't put much stock in the he said she said rumors. Raimi stamped his name on all three movies. If he didn't like them he should have walked.

I agree completely with this.
It wouldn't surprise me if they brought characters in purely for the purpose of creating a spin-off line of cheaply made movies that will sell because of the characters involved.

Maybe the world will end in 2012 after all.

i don't know about "nicely". yYs, Malcovich was up for The Vulture (and had been fitted for a costume)- but that's about the only accurate thing here.

For one - Raimi didn't have control - that's a big reason he walked. Sony did not want him using the Vulture, or his second choice, The Lizard. The script was a mess (this according to about everyone involved), and focused on Peter and MJ having a baby.

Uh, I read. this isn't he said/she said - it's "everybody says". The plug being pulled is the only new part of the story - the rest has been in the industry trades and press for the last 3 months.

And you last comment about him just walking away - shows a distinct lack of understanding concerning how the industry works.
