Ok,Ok,I'm sure this has been discussed a million times but I've only just noticed it.I'm on my regular rewatch and have just noticed the continuity error in The Message.
In the scene where the crew are in the cargo bay around the coffin and listening to Tracey's message,we see Jayne remove his hat out of respect.The next time we see him his hat is miraculously back on his head.The third time,it's off again.Oops!!!

Thats not the only continuity error with Jayne's hat in that episode. If you look closely, in some scenes, Jayne's hat is laced with the straw from the package it came it, and then in the next shot, the straw is gone. Fast forward another scene, and the straw is tangled in his hat once again. I think they talk about this in the audio commentary for the episode.

But to be honest I never really noticed any of these things watching it my first time through. I don't even think I caught the one you were talk about, peacekeeper. Gets me thinking, are there other subtle things like this I might have missed? Looks like I'll be rewatching my box set in the near future!

These types of "continuity" observations are always fascinating to me. Fascinating because I never notice them until they're pointed out to me. Or if I do happen to notice something a little weird, I usually brush it aside as explainable and minor. IMDB lists "errors" for all movies they review. It's simply amazing how many of these types of things are so common to have in a movie, and almost all of them are invisible to us.

Adam has said that he intentionally created many continuity errors, often with his running gag of headgear. I think he mentions it specifically for The Message on the commentary, but also discusses his overall effort in either commentaries or on one of those panels, maybe on Done The Impossible. I think the Serenity commentary includes mention of his efforts in the bridge after River shows them Miranda - look for Jayne's arms, hands on the wall, leaning one way and then the other, etc.
