At 8 p.m., NBC's doomed "Providence" won the hour with a 7.7/14. "48 Hours Investigates" placed second on CBS with a 7.6/14 as a full hour of "America's Funniest Home Videos" finished third on ABC with a 5.9/11. "Firefly" was fourth on FOX with a disappointing 2.8/5.

now notice that all 3 other shows(except America's funniest video) are down from the 2 previous weeks but firefly isn't! So that's a pretty good news IMO

Well... we'll see if it's good enough in a day or two, I suppose.

I'm not hopeful, mostly because at this point there's nothing I can do, so I may as well steel myself for the worst.

I can't wait until 'Providence' drops out of the race. If Firefly survives, it'll be interesting to see what happens to it in the ratings.

I haven't followed... why is a show with a 7.7 being cancelled?

Because it's on NBC--a much larger network where a 7.7 is considered poor.

But... NBC's season average is only 8.6... and 7.7 is higher than the average for ABC as a network.

The NBC season average is 8.8, therefore shows should match that. Providence has only a 7.7, below standards.

That would be my guess.

if 8.8 is average, that would mean roughly half the shows are above that, and half below though...right?
