But a lot of these blanket "no one should have guns" (I know you didn't go that far yet but it's not a far leap) statements get my dander up a little.
I am very much for gun control. We have it here in the Great White North and things are still all well and good with the world.
That being said, I have no problem (nor anyone I have talked to) with people that carry firearms as related to there work. If you expect to be put in a dangerous situation during work then it *is* irresponsible *not* carry a firearm.
I am for gun control because these instances basically requiring the carrying of firearms is quite rare (though probably more common than I think, it'll still be too rare to not have gun control, IMHO). So, then rules should be set up to license people who need them.
I have never met someone who thinks that *no-one* should carry guns. I believe this to be society dependent. Here in North America we have bad guys that carry heavy weaponry, so, we need our cops to carry sufficient fire power to combat these people. The British are luck that they don't need there cops to carry.
When it comes to hunting, I believe that using firearms is unfair. I'm for using the bow and arrow. But, then again, opinions will differ.

Welcome, JCKnife! I guess I'm one of those stupid liberals you and some of your friends talk about (and a I'm a former gun owner who is a pacifist - how's that for a dichotomy?).
So long as you like Firefly, you will always be welcome here, whatever your politics. You have already shown yourself to be discerning and tasteful just by searching this place out!

Guns? Dangerous?
Guns aren't dangerous!!! What kind of crazy talk is that? Dangerous.
--Although, for the record, most people don't like it when ya shoot at em. Figured that out myself.--
We're gonna need 'em when Bush and co. start setting up the death camps in Idaho.
Stupid, wussy Liberals... Yall will be the first to go. Those of us armed to the teeth? Not so much.
My favorite so far is a Jackhammer (shotgun) mounted with a titanium bayonet.
That way, if they get to close to stab, you can always pull the trigger.

But...that IS what we talk about on ARFCOM. I was just sharing how I learned about the show.
DARKJESTER--thanks for the classy welcome. I really appreciate it. I will honestly say that previous boards I've spent much time on didn't offer a lot of diversity of opinions. I'm looking forward to that here, especially if folks can be sensible about it like you seem to be.

Howdy JCKNIFE, new Browncoats are always welcome around these here parts. The natives are generally "plenty civilized", even regardin' some topics that might ruffle a few tail feathers now and then. Be sure to come visit a spell whenever ya get the urge and don't forget to bring some friends. We lost the last one due to "superior numbers", but it looks like we've got 'em licked this time around. Also, that there DVD set you're packin' can be a powerful hiddeous weapon against them there Alliance purplebellies. Loan it to a friend and see what happens...

Welcome, friend! Glad to have you around. Don't mind the crazy-psychic-girl, she's peacable.
When did this become a political board?

You could've shared how you came to know about the show without mentioning talking about the "stupid liberals". You could've just mentioned where you came across the show.
I'm just saying that when coming to a new place it's best to not off handedly mention things that could get you kicked straight away, or, at least marked as a
. It's just a lucky thing that the people here are really nice or... I'll reference the getting kicked again.Well, at least not start the discussion. But, if one is already going then all is good. I do believe that I've ruffled a few feathers from time to time

I appreciate the notion that I came barging through the door with my mouth running ahead of the rest of me, and maybe that wasn't the most civilized thing to do. But when it gets right down to it you can't know me without knowing that's how I feel; and like I said, if I can't be myself, ain't much point in being here. Can I get you a beer or something?
