hummus is yum. When he was in college my dad took a break and lived in Lebanon ( back when it was still relatively safe ) for 2 years. He makes the most amazing hummus in the world.

Originally posted by StinkingRose: Hummus is basically chickpea and sesame paste with (usually) salt, pepper, lemon juice, and garlic. It can be very elaborately seasoned, or practically plain, or have any number of amendments added. Chunky vs. smooth is not usually an issue like with peanutbutter, but you can get some textural variations.

Interesting. How does one make the basic paste? Or is it something you can find in a store? (though I love making stuff from scratch, lol)

And, in case I'm not on tomorrow (5th anniversary, hopefully will be out celebrating somewhere), Happy Halloween everyone.

ok here's how you make hummus the sesame paste is called tahini and you buy it.

2 cans chick peas ( garbanzo beans)
3-4 cloves of peeled garlic
1/4 c lemon juice
1 tsp cumin
3 tablespoons tahini ( sesame butter sort of like peanut butter you can buy at the local health food or grocery store)
water
salt

Drain and put one can of peas in the blender. Add garlic , cumin, and lemon juice. blend til about the consistency of thick peanut butter ( add some water if you need to) then add tahini and second can of peas. Blend on high and add a bit of water at a time until about the consistency of thick and creamy ( or slightly chunky based on preference) add salt and blend a bit more ...

When you feel like you're walking around a cantaloupe you're definitely making progress!

I'm almost bouncing up and down in anticipation with you.

So, we probably ought to dust off the robo-tender until someone worthy takes up the mantle of bartendender. I'm not sure you'd want me shirtless, we'd better wait around a while. (Heroically refrains from making a crass comment about "milk bar" TYVM.)

So, it's very very quiet here tonight. Is anyone else about?

So, I seem to have a bad case of the "so,"s.

HUGS yup lots of pain, pressure and I'm not clear on how one walks with the baby's head in the way...

I think I'm going to clear a corner and hang absentee bartender sign... in case Kelkhil changes his mind.
