Border Planets

There's a mention of "Border planets" or "Border worlds" in Firefly. Any body have an example of one, or where they're located in the Firefly 'Verse? Are they out past the Rim, part of the Rim, somewhere between the Rim and the Core...?

Border planet, to me seems like any planet that is not in the core. They are the rim. Any planet that the alliance has put settlers on but has not gotten around to "civilizing" just yet.

Ex. Whitefall, triumph, that planet where they juggle geese, etc.
