Okay, so I just got finished watching that one... erm... two episodes ago. Here's my brief summary (HK's Notes):

"((sniffle, sniffle, whimper)) ((runs off like a little school girl))"

Xander:
"ZOMG! Buff! WTF!!! He's so obviously The One! He luvz UUUUU! And so he lied to you and cheated on you and nearly got himself and us killed because of his own pathetic insecurities and all that, but it's TOTALLY UR fault. Run after him!"

Buffy:
"Um. OKAY! It's totally MY fault that Riley is a whiney little pansy boy who needs a damsel in distress to make him feel like a man, and anything resembling independence and strength makes him feel castrated even though I gave him every ounce of my heart and soul, and OH BY THE WAY, my mom is dying and my sister isn't real and there's an evil god out to kill both me and my not-real-sister. But yeah. TOTALLY MY FAULT. I'ma RUN AFTER HIM."

Okay, so, maybe with my summary you can see why I don't understand that episode...?

LOL! Okay, yeah, that's a good summary. I did relate to Riley feeling shut out a little bit, but I never thought that justified what he did, and never thought Buffy should have run after him after all that. I don't think she did really love him and I don't think she was very good to him, but then I think Buffy was kinda sorta a total bitch to just about everyone for most of the series. But anyway they clearly had emotional friction as a couple, almost from the very start. If they wanted Riley out of the picture (which clearly, they did) I think they could have done it without the lying and the cheating and the utter drama roller-coaster. It was poorly done. Riley had served his purpose in advancing the story and it was time for him to leave, but the whole arc felt totally contrived, from the moment he started to let vamps suck him. I guess without drama it wouldn't be entertainment, but they could have done it better, yes?

Well when you put it that way HK.. I get why you're puzzled... mostly I think Buffy despite strong and smart makes bad men choices over and over.. unavailable, unkind, unresponsive, or unremarkable.. over and over she's proved that while she can defend us, she's an idiot when it comes to relationships:0

HUGS Rosie.. I am taking over 2 1/2 months maternity leave ( which started 3 weeks ago) and that would be more than FMLA + totally unpaid so really really tough financially so there's just no way I could take more. They'd let me, but we just can't swing it:( Oh well baby will get to be home and hang with daddy so that'll be nice

I tuned out of Buffy shortly into season 4, but I've recently gotten all the seasons, so maybe (just maybe) once I've caught up on Burn Notice, Fringe and various others, I might resume watching it.




Or I could watch Babylon 5, since I've yet to see any of that.

Morning all,

to important matters, never really liked Riley, they seemed to struggle for a while once moving away from high school and loosing that high school is hell framework that had served so well, he was too clean cut, the initiative didn't seem to work for me, I get he was excluded but I'm not sure there was a strong enough idea of his character so what was there to like? It seemed they kept shifting bits of his personality as the scripts required it. Season 5 was not a strong season really although it does contain one of my all time favourite episodes, which we never get to see on tv due to the legal stuff round The Gentleman.

Anyway, work to do, hope your doing ok MsA, about all I can do really.
