Sudden random thought SR: Wonder what boychild's karate sensei would do if s/he heard about boychild's behavior. ('m thinking that sensei might want to hear about it 'cause one of the things that should be drilled into boychild's head for karate is "fighting is only in self-defense..." and have a few other suggestions for any other disciplinary actions to use at home.)

He's going there tonight. Not going yesterday was part of the punishment. If they weren't picking up a lot of new material this week he wouldn't be going for the rest of the week. He would have gotten to explain his absence at that point. Pappa's probably going to mention it.
The senseis consider themselves a part of the "whole child" school/home/dojo thing. At least he wasn't using his karate! (Brown belt. I hadn't realized his aim was that good, now I worry more.)

I remember school as being a succession of these sorts of things, scuffles and arguments. As you say, a Nerf bat is luckily quite minor. Could have been a tennis racket, or a ring-binder, or a chair...
My brother simply sat on another boy and broke his collar-bone when he was at school.

Neko- I wasn't there at the time, but the kid in question shoved a teacher ( who was 7 months pregnant at the time) to the ground as hard as he could. It was my last school before moving to nevada and the kid was only suspended for a day ( bad administrators who never wanted to deal with behavior) and returned. So the teacher quit.

OK honestly I must have gone to school on a different planet from the rest of you. I never even knew anyone who was in a fight and the closest I ever got to picked on was when a little school friend of my attempted to even my pigtails out using her safety scissors.

Yeah, definitely a different planet. I got my arm slammed in a locker door and my head slammed against a filing cabinet. Both times, I was punished for defending myself. Though the girl who slammed my arm in the locker was worse off than I was at the end of the day, I will admit. That was all in middle school. My high school was big enough to get lost in, so I avoided most trouble. I did see a guy get thrown into the safety glass of the library door and crack it all to hell, though.

I don't really recall any *fights* during the primary and secondary school years, it was more picking-on and name calling and verbal abuse between the popular kids and the not popular kids. unless you were a quiet kid, then you were kind of left alone unless someone found reason to suddenly turn attention on you.
MsA: Pushing a 7-month pregnant teacher and only got suspended for a DAY??? Smart on her part to quit, but that administration is just stupid.
