Be careful what you wish for. Jessica Alba in high definition could give you night sweats for a month.

My really old one from 2008 is pretty good.

Mine is from 04 or so, and is one of the early plasma sets. It's nice and bright (I much prefer plasma to LCD), but the contrast level isn't so great. The biggest issue with it, is when I watch Blu Ray, or even upscaled DVDs, the blacks get kinda crushed, making the image look muddy if it's a dark film.

I watch so much stuff with space in it, deep black with bright white stars is my first concern. My LCD is tops in that area (Sanyo).

24 months changes things a great deal, eh? Like the small gray hairs on your/my temples..?

I'd have to go back a lot further than 24 months to only have a few grey hairs at the temples! 'Course, I should be thankful to have any hair at all... :)

The first BluRay I watched was Dark City, and it looked terrible. Of course, that was before I had all the settings correct between the player and the set.

I dont know about all players, but the PS3 has all kindsa little settings beyond that. Had to find a tutorial to get it right.

Haven't really messed around with the PS3 settings. Heck, haven't even played a BluRay disk on it yet!

Chris, if you're not ready for BluRay, look into an upconverting DVD player. I picked one up off Woot a while back (a Philips) for $24, and damned if it doesn't look quite a bit better than my JVC DVD player AND my RCA home theatre unit. It's not quite as good as hi-def TV or BluRay, but it's noticeably better than standard DVD.
