For me Surrogates was way too similar to I, Robot. They even cast Cromwell in the same role for both movies. Though I'm a big fan of Willis (hey, Fifth Element is one of my top ten sci-fi films), I felt I,Robot was much better than Surrogates and not just because Alan was in it.

Looks like I'll wait for the DVD, myself.
Speaking of which, thanks for reminding me about the 5th Element. Been a while since I'v seen it, and the DVD's I've been renting have been less than stellar.
The T.Rex they call JANE!

MG, I agree. It is a smear of West World, I Robot, Bladerunner, and Terminator. Now the scientist is alot like Tesla. Tesla created AC current to help ease the burdens of daily life for man to aspire to the higher learning of things. But his invention created more issues and problems for man. Lights at night meant you work more hours. Remote control led to torpedoes and so on. The scientist realised his dream to help cripples went hay wire.
"Battle of Serenity, Mal. Besides Zoe here, how many-" "I'm talkin at you! How many men in your platoon came out of their alive".

Surrogates was far better than The Fresh Prince of I Robot. Surrogates had, like, actors, foshizzle. Although Bruce, Rahda, and Rosemund are draws for me, the film was more enjoyable than expected. I don't want to suffer through Fresh Prince again to compare the 2.
Although I had not seen Gamer billed as anything similar, I was even more surprised at it's result, much better than I expected. I had the impression it might be just another Doom, rather than Surrogates type premise.

Don't worry, Chris, I'll back you up on the I, Robot love!
I saw it at Grauman's Chinese in DLP,and my mouth was hanging open the whole time! (Probably why I actually liked the Matrix sequels!)
I think I'm due for a re-watch.
As for Surrogates, I haven't seen it yet, but I've been fascinated with the idea of telepresence since I was a kid watching that episode of The Six Million Dollar Man, "Day of the Robot", where Dr. Dolenz is watching the robot's progress over the monitors at his little command base and giving orders.
Being that I was somewhat weary of the regular abuse I received at school (and not eager to endure bionic limb-replacement surgery), I thought it'd be kinda neat to send a robot in my place, which I'd control from a console hidden in the back of my closet: "See that kid right there? Take him down!"

I'm sure I'll like Willis' new one, but prolly not as much as Smith's.

The one CGI sequence that impressed me the most in the theater was where Sonny was making the drawing... with two hands... and not even looking at the paper! That was just byoooteefull!

That was cool. What really got me was the 'bots grouping in storage.
It was a really good SF story in the guise of an actioner.
