ETA: On Topic: It's been too long a while since St. Louis hosted the Olympics. Maybe in 2020 they'll win the bid, and then destroy and replace every stadium, arena, and dome downtown, AGAIN!!!

GRR!!! I'm still uber pissed about old Busch Stadium! Last time I was in STL for the 4th (3rd) of July fair, when the Metrolink went past the Neeew Busch Stadium, I nearly THREW UP IN MY MOUTH!!! The bastards BLEW UP MY COLISEUM(!), and replaced it with a FENWAY PARK WANNABE!!! ARRG!!! [rant off]

Brazil hosting the Olympics could provide an opportunity. Much like how the Chinese Olympics nudged China about their pollution problems (not sure how long it lasted, but they are installing a lot more solar energy now, as I heard it), this could be a useful vector to address the consequences of slash and burn deforestation.

But that's the norm lately in America, you couldn't have missed THAT! Anything to shine a negative light on him and his administration. This shouldn't have surprised you at all.

What gets me more is the CHEERING and joy that we lost...it shows just how far this mentality has gone, and that's downright depressing.

Yes, their crime rate is tons more than Chicago. Me, I put it down to South America's first chance at the Olympics, while the U.S. has had HOW many? I think it's only right, tho' I'm sorry for the loss of jobs. On the other hand, didn't some sites lose money from hosting the Olympics? Chicago doesn't need THAT, either, eh?

All in all, another tempest in a teapot. I wish we had a semi-working two-party system again, this bullshit has gone waaaay past "pathetic" and left "disgusting" in the dust...

Well , it can't have hurt Brazil's economy that ScamBO has arranged that corporate-welfare deal to support offshore drilling by Petrobras for the personal enrichment of non-citizen Obama financier George Soros...

Obama's granny was present at his birth in Kenya ; many African nations acknowledge ScamBO as a 'native son' , but Barack's sister says that he was 'born' in at least one of the two hospitals in Honolulu , if not BOTH of them...

So , who can be blamed for being skeptical when ScamBO tries to claim Chi-town as his 'hometown' ? Seems that works with Oprah , but maybe not the I.O.C. !

This would be nice. Only snag is that the Chinese olympics were in Beijing, where the polution is worst; Rio is far from the deforestation areas.

It might bring attn. to the orchestrated killings of street children in Rio however.

Umm, another thought edges in, so obvious that I am surprised no one else brought it up.

If you were the olympic committee, member nations and the athletes, would YOU want to deal with the fucking DHS/TSA jackbooks and american alphabet goons up your ass with a telescope every step of the way, and spying on everything from your telephone to the contents of the plumbing ?

Let's not pretend that wasn't a factor here, given that other nations are so pissed about it that many are reccommending against tourism here.
