Hmm, had not heard the comparison to Event Horizon. EH was so bad it had not occurred to me. Perhaps that is a decent comparison. I do not want to give better example, for tripping over spoilers would be too easy.

The City of Ember trailer didn't do much for me, but I'll try to check it out.
And everyone I know who's seen Pandorum has compared it to Event Horizon, except they say it's not as good.

So I'm told, but I have not seen it.
To be fair, they said it did have some very well done, intense sequences, but overall they said it came off as a hodgepodge of various other scifi films smooshed together.

I kinda liked Event Horizon. Great cast, great production design, a creepy atmosphere... then it all just goes retarded in the last 20 minutes or so.
But given that most of his films are retarded from the opening credits on..... I guess that's an accomplishment for him.

City Of Ember, in earnest, disappointed a bit. 'Tweren't bad or anything. But a thousand points of light, all hopelessly oldfashioned lightbulbs, hanging from the ceiling, high above the city, c'mon! After the Earth's destruction, in the year of our fluffy Lord 2416, you'd think they have better lighting than 19th century bulbs that look like made by Thomas Edison himself, no? And then, to give the title meaning, these bulbs are all burning at, say, 10% capacity, with clearly visible filament, to get the ember glow going.
Then the story itself, eh, mankind is about to come to an end, and a group of scientists decide to create and populate a city deep underground. All ruled by a self-serving administration who wants to keep things as is. And then, much later, a few manage to escape and find out the earth is long since habitable again. That's Highlander 2: The Quickening all over again! (sans the silly embers). Or any other SF movie that has dealt with that downtrodden theme.
Like I said, 'tweren't really bad. And I liked Lina. She probably single-handedly held the whole thing together. But I ain't buying the movie on account of her; nor would I recommend it to others. All of this has been done before, much better; and all of this will be done again, probably much better too.
